PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between John Rekis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Tadashi Watanabe (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rekis's ring entrance music is that housewives' favourite, AC/DC - Thunderstruck. Both fighters will be looking to make this an exciting fight for the fans, I'm sure!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 20 - 16 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, John Rekis!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Tadashi Watanabe!
The judges for this bout are Shigeki Fujiwara, Kenichi Hosakawa and Ren Mimura.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Watanabe stuffs the takedown attempt from Rekis. Rekis gets slowly back to his feet.
And an attempted straight right on the counter from Watanabe! But no joy.
Rekis uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Watanabe has time to react.
Rekis looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.

Rekis feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Watanabe is trying to keep Rekis in close.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Rekis is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Rekis sitting in guard, not really doing much.
Rekis in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Rekis slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Watanabe wants to sweep but no luck.
Rekis advances to half guard.
Watanabe wants to get back to full guard.

Rekis looks to score some points with some ground and pound.
Watanabe tries to get to full guard but Rekis has control of the leg.
Watanabe really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Rekis. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Rekis in particular looking to stall.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Watanabe is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Rekis is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Watanabe is not content to let Rekis control the position.
Rekis scores with a couple of good hammerfists.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Watanabe is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Rekis scores with a couple of nice shots.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Watanabe tries to roll over but Rekis keeps him under control.

Rekis is working for a submission of some sort.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Rekis takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Watanabe is trying to control but can't.

Rekis is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.

Rekis is working for a kimura but Watanabe is defending it quite comfortably.
Watanabe is looking to improve his position.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Rekis drops an elbow to the side of Watanabe's head.
Rekis has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Rekis is working for a submission here. He's got hold of the far side arm and he's looking for a kimura. He's cranking on the arm and he's got it! Watanabe is tapping out! Ouch, that looked like it hurt!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:35 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). John Rekis!
John Rekis decided to thank the fans in attendance for making a great atmosphere. It seemed to go down pretty well.
