PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Roderick Chaney (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Alexander Gaia (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Gaia has chosen Go To Sleep as his entrance music. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Gaia clinches up against the cage.
Gaia using the Thai plumb to throw knees but Chaney has his back arched nicely, preventing the strike.
Gaia with the Thai clinch. He's looking to land a big knee but he's not managed it this time.
Gaia has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Chaney is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
Gaia keeps control of Chaney as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.
Gaia is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Chaney gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.
Chaney has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Gaia is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.

Chaney pulls guard effortlessly.
Chaney looking to control.
Chaney doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.
Gaia looking to sit in guard and control but Chaney gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Chaney is looking to work some ground and pound but Gaia has wrist control.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Chaney trying to stand up but can't free himself from Gaia's guard.
Chaney in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.

Chaney wants to control from the top but Gaia keeps moving.
Gaia wants to get back to his feet but Chaney is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Gaia is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.
Chaney trying to control but Gaia is working from the bottom.
Gaia is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Chaney will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Gaia keeping moving, preventing Chaney from controlling successfully.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Chaney dives in for a single leg takedown but Gaia sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.

Gaia drives through with a takedown into guard.

Chaney has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes Gaia off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds.

Gaia closes the distance and clinches.

Gaia breaks from the clinch.

Gaia feints and as Chaney raises his hands in defense, Gaia changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Gaia drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Chaney manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Gaia has Chaney in his guard.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Gaia can do anything to dispel that myth.
Chaney postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Chaney is looking to stand up but Gaia won't let him.
Chaney wants to control from the top but Gaia keeps moving.
Chaney prevents Gaia from getting back to his feet.
Gaia really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Chaney. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Chaney works over Gaia with some ground and pound from guard.
Gaia controlling Chaney's posture.
Chaney landing some decent shots from guard.
Chaney wants to control from the top but Gaia keeps moving.
Gaia pulls Chaney in close to prevent any damage.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Roderick Chaney will probably get the nod.
That's time! Chaney's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.

Gaia lands with a cross.
Chaney fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Gaia avoids it really well and circles away.

Chaney tries to sprawl but Gaia drives through with a takedown into half guard.
Gaia is nestled in close to Chaney, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.

It looks like Roderick Chaney has been cut.

Gaia scores with a big shot! Chaney's head bounced off the canvas with a huge thud! More strikes land and the referee has jumped in to save Chaney! He was hurt real bad - good stoppage!
