PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Rami Harris (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Michael Koko (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Harris's entrance music is Jedi Theme Music. A fine choice. On his way into the cage it seems that Rami Harris has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Rami Harris seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 13 - 13 - 1, fighting out of Hilo, Rami Harris!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 30 - 17 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Michael Koko!
The judges for this bout are George Francis, Stewart Dunkirk and Cecil Peabody.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Koko keeps the fight on the outside.
Harris avoids a kick to the body.
We've been told by Harris's head coaches at mickeyharts the greatest that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight.
Harris is looking to clinch.
Koko avoids the head kick by Harris.
Koko swings away with a counter right hand but no contact made.
Nice straight punches there by Koko. You know Roy Jones Jr respects the hands of Koko.
Koko lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Harris circles away quickly and effectively.
Koko throws a head kick that half lands.
Harris slips under a jab from Koko.
Harris fires out a quick counter leg kick but Koko just manages to avoid it.
Harris looks to score with a jab to the body but Koko is just out of range.
Harris throws a body kick but he was well out of range there.

Harris moves into the clinch.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Koko lands with a short shot to the head.

Harris has hold of one of Koko's legs. Koko is fighting the takedown attempt but Harris gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard.

Harris is looking to take a break and control but Koko is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Koko pushes Harris off looking to stand but Harris dives back in and keeps control.

Harris thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Koko's head.
Koko is staying active underneath Harris, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Harris is nestled in close to Koko, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Harris is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.

Harris seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Koko does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Harris has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Harris seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Koko does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Michael Koko seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Koko throws a front kick aimed at Harris's knee but Harris avoids it well.
Koko tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Harris was well out of range. Poor timing from Koko.
Koko fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Harris has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.
A solid leg kick lands there for Koko.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Koko throws a right and a left that Harris avoids nicely.
Sloppy strikes from Koko. Those never looked like landing.
Harris is trying to close the distance and clinch up, after that failed offence from Koko.
Koko lands a nice shot to the body.
Koko checks a leg kick nicely.
Harris lands a nice leg kick that just misses Koko's sensitive parts.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Harris accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

Koko wants to break the clinch but can't.
Harris has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Koko is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.

Koko breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Harris uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Koko.

Koko rushes Harris and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Harris is looking to take this one to the mat.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Rami Harris. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Koko misses with the head strike.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Come on Koko - let's have some action - none of this stalling nonsense.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Koko throws a looping overhand right but Harris ducks down to avoid it.
That kick from Koko tenderised Harris's leg. Harris is trying to keep his angry face on.
Koko tests Harris's chin there with a solid looking shot.
Harris slips a jab and a cross from Koko.
Ouch! a nice leg kick from Harris, right into the meat.

Koko digs a good body shot into Harris's ribs.
Koko thuds his right hand into Harris's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters.
Koko throws out a powerful jab.
No luck for Harris with that takedown attempt.

Michael Koko showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!

Harris looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Koko with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

Harris sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Koko's guard.

Koko on the wrong end of a nice low kick. He's acting like it's no big deal but he doesn't want to take many more of those.

The fighters are pressed against the cage, as the pace of the fight slows.
Koko tries a body shot but Harris blocks it.

The referee calls for Harris to work.
Koko lands a left hand that snaps the head of Harris backwards.
Harris throws a punch but it's blocked by Koko.
Koko tries to work over Harris's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target.
Harris lands with a light punch inside.
Koko is pressed up against the cage. Harris has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Koko down to the mat. Koko avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Koko ducks under a wild hook from Harris.
A combination from Koko does no damage.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Koko pushes Harris back against the cage and lands a hook to the side of the head.
Koko takes a shot to the head.
Harris lands a short shot on the inside that snaps the head of Koko backwards.
Harris is looking for a takedown.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Rami Harris. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Koko misses with a punch to the body.
Koko tries to circle away but Harris has him pinned against the cage.
Koko putting his Muay Thai to good use. He has Harris in a tight clinch and is doing some damage with knees to the body.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Rami Harris.
I think Harris has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
