Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
The fight stays on the outside here - McGregor looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Jones leaves McGregor with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Jones jabs McGregor right on the nose. McGregor blinks but takes it well.
McGregor closes this distance looking for a takedown but Jones circles away.
Jones swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Jones on the wrong end of a decent looking cross there.
McGregor misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.

McGregor takes the fight into the clinch.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

McGregor's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

McGregor clinches up with Jones and pushes him back against the cage.
Jones wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.

Jones dodges an elbow strike from McGregor.

McGregor throws a punch but it's blocked by Jones.
McGregor scores a nice knee to the body.

McGregor breaks from the clinch.

Jones scores with a jab to the jaw of his opponent.


It looks like Konor McGregor has been cut.
Jones connects with a single shot there.
Jones throws a wild body kick that McGregor sees coming a mile off.
Jones scores to the head and body with a nice combination!
McGregor on the wrong end of a decent looking cross there.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Jones connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed McGregor momentarily.

McGregor is rocked!

McGregor darts in and clinches Jones up against the cage.

McGregor jumps guard and drags Jones to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
Jones must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Jones works over McGregor with some ground and pound from guard.
Jones is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
Jones throws a strike but McGregor rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Jones is looking to stand up but McGregor isn't so interested in that idea.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Jones can do anything to dispel that myth.
Jones seems keen to control McGregor's posture.
McGregor stops Jones from standing up.
McGregor throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Jones pulls McGregor in close to prevent any damage.
McGregor is looking to work some ground and pound but Jones has wrist control.
Jones is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Jones wants to get back to his feet but McGregor is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Jones is controlling McGregor's posture.

Jones working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. McGregor doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. McGregor manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Jones preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
Jones is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
McGregor looks to land a left hand but Jones moved out of range nicely.
Jones looks like he wants to counter punch here.
Jones fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Jones has used his reach advantage pretty well so far tonight.
McGregor tries to clinch but Jones is having none of it.
Jones lands a head shot.
Jones lands a nice hook to McGregor's body. McGregor takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes.
McGregor on the wrong end of an overhand right that came out of nowhere.
McGregor is looking to land body kicks.
Wow, both these guys are really going for it!

Alex Jones seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
McGregor misses with a head kick.
It seemed like Jones was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it.
Jones connects with a body shot that sends McGregor's belly button to the back.
McGregor tries to bum rush Jones with a series of wild strikes but Jones uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
McGregor shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Jones pinned against the cage. Jones gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Konor McGregor. That's going to take a lot out of him.
McGregor is breathing heavily.
Jones scores with a nice looking left hook and follows it up with an uppercut!
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

McGregor takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor.
Jones throws a shot to the body.
McGregor shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Jones connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Jones catches McGregor with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong!


Konor McGregor's cut is getting worse.

Jones drops McGregor with a beautiful combination! McGregor stares up at his opponent, who ushers him back to his feet - Jones is looking for the KO!
Oh McGregor is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
The crowd applaud the fighters' efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Jones grits his teeth and throws a big right-left combo! McGregor takes both shots clean on the chin and is out cold! Jones cracks him once more on his way down, as the crowd goes wild! They enjoyed that one!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:55 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Punches). Alex Jones!
