PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Juan Sharp (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Irving Sokolsky (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). On his way into the cage it seems that Juan Sharp has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Juan Sharp seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Juan Sharp!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Irving Sokolsky!
The judges for this bout are Leandro Rodrigues, Edson Gomes and Mauricio Rocha.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Sokolsky drives through and clinches with Sharp against the cage.

Sharp breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Sokolsky fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Sharp, pushing him back against the cage.
Sharp connects with a knee to the head.

Sokolsky has hold of one of Sharp's legs. Sharp is fighting the takedown attempt but Sokolsky gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard.

Sharp pushes Sokolsky off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Nice sprawl there from Sokolsky as Sharp shoots in.

Sharp changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Sokolsky looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Sharp with the ground and pound but Sokolsky regains half guard under the barage of strikes.

Sharp is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.
Sharp throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Sharp thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.

Sharp working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.

Sharp is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Sharp thows a huge punch but Sokolsky dodges it nicely.

Sharp decides to stand up and try his luck on the feet.

Sokolsky gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Sokolsky is working hard here but doesn't seem to be able to control effectively, up against the cage.

Sokolsky is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Sharp can't fight it off and eventually Sokolsky manages to take the fight to the floor. Sharp looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Sharp has scooted to the edge of the canvas and used the cage to get back to his feet. Sokolsky has stuck on his opponent and is forcing him back against the cage.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Sharp's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.

Sharp's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Sokolsky misses with a leg kick
and Sharp counters with a nice leg kick.

Sharp looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Sokolsky is fending him off so far but Sharp persists. Nope, Sokolsky circles away and we're back to standing.

Sharp tries to keep at a distance but Sokolsky has taken the fight into the clinch.

Sokolsky ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Sokolsky no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.

Sharp loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.

Sharp gets to his feet - Sokolsky follows without any prompting.
Sharp really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Sharp shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Sokolsky but Sokolsky pushes him off and we're back to square one.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Juan Sharp. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Sharp shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.

Sharp lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.
Sharp has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Sharp is nestled in close to Sokolsky, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
This has been an exciting period of action!
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.

Sokolsky really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Sharp. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Sharp scores with a couple of nice shots to the head there. The referee takes a look at Sokolsky to see if he's OK.

Sokolsky is rocked!

Sharp has hold of Sokolsky's arm. He's looking for a kimura. Sokolsky seems comfortable defending it but Sharp has shifted his position slighty and is cranking on the arm! Sokolsky is real pain and he's forced to tap out! Sokolsky is disgusted with himself for not defending it better but Sharp couldn't care less - he's delighted!
