Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Emmett Smith (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Julian Kong (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Emmett Smith!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Julian Kong!
The judges for this bout are Jeff Smith, Ryoma Takatsuka and Paul Gruel.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Smith fails with a takedown attempt.
Kong wants to counter with a clinch but Smith pushes him away.

Kong closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Kong slows the pace down.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Smith tries to improve position but can't.
Smith might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Kong staying calm.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Smith tries to strike from the bottom but misses.

Kong thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Smith manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!
Kong is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Smith is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Kong is just riding it out for now. Smith eventually gives up the hold.

Kong trying to hold on to Smith's head to control him but Smith postures up.

Smith is looking for a kimura here.
Kong gets back to full guard.

Kong working a defensive guard here.
Smith is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.
Smith lands a couple of digs.
Smith stands up over Kong, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Smith missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Kong utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Smith accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Smith throwing strikes but missing.
Smith throws a strike but Kong rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.


That's four minutes gone in the round.

Smith looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Kong stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Smith swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Kong throws an elbow that misses. Smith uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Kong's guard. Nice move by Smith!

Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Kong is pulling down on Smith's head. It's preventing any offense from Smith, at least for the moment.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Emmett Smith dominated that round.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!


Kong throws a head kick but Smith moves out of range.
Smith shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Kong as he avoids it easily.
Kong keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.

Kong scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
Smith manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.

Smith looking for submissions off his back.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Smith gets back to full guard.
Kong must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Kong is looking to work some ground and pound but Smith has wrist control.
Kong trying to control the position from guard on top but Smith is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Kong controls from within his opponent's guard.
Kong wants to control from the top but Smith keeps moving.
Kong cracks Smith with a solid left hand.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Kong distracts Smith with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.

Kong gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
Kong throws a leg kick but Smith sees it coming and checks it nicely.

Kong moves into range and clinches up with Smith.
Smith wants a takedown.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Emmett Smith. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Kong has Smith pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Kong pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Smith tumbling to the mat - Kong dives into Smith's guard.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Kong accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Smith looking for a guillotine here but Kong defends easily.
Kong is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
Kong throws a big elbow that misses.
Smith doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Kong gets to his feet - Smith follows without any prompting.
Kong looking to throw a kick but he's pulled out of it.

Kong closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Smith quickly recovers to half guard.
Smith wants to stand back up but Kong manages to pass into side control.

Kong is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Smith is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Check out the look on Kong's face as he threw that strike - that's one determined fighter!
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Smith is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Kong asserts his dominance and retains side control.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Julian Kong showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!



Smith forces Kong back against the cage and clinches.

Kong breaks the clinch.
Kong tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Kong.
Smith shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Kong as he avoids it easily.

Smith controls Kong momentarily but Kong frees himself.

Smith keeping moving, preventing Kong from controlling successfully.

Kong got a little sloppy there for a moment and Smith has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Kong has managed to get both his arms back between Smith's legs - danger averted.
Kong throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Kong looking to control the position here, rather than advance.
Kong throws a strike but Smith rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.


Smith is trying to tuck his arms in to keep them safe but Kong has managed to isolate one of them and has got a loose triangle. Smith is looking to defend but Kong has done well to lock his legs together - this could be big trouble for Smith! Kong pulls down on the head and a little smile comes across his face - he knows he's got it. Yep, Smith taps out and this one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:55 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Julian Kong!
