Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Cody Garbrandt (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Josh Turner (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Turner has chosen Next Episode by Dr. Dre as his entrance music. Josh Turner acknowledges the crowd's support as he enters the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Cody Garbrandt!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Josh Turner!
The judges for this bout are Lou da Vinci, Reed Andrews and Bruno Lombardi.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Turner looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Turner shoots for a takedown but Garbrandt saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
We've been told by Garbrandt's head coaches at El Tico 's Academy that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight.

Turner shoots and misses
and Garbrandt counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.

enabling Garbrandt to counter with a crisp jab.
Cody Garbrandt has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Josh Turner.
Turner fails with the takedown
and Garbrandt makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.
Garbrandt scores with a nice strike.
Turner is trying hard to land a takedown here. Garbrandt sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.

Garbrandt digs a good body shot into Turner's ribs.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Garbrandt scores with a sloppy right hand. Turner should have avoided that one.
Garbrandt thuds a left hand into Turner's body.

Turner misses with a jab to the body
and Garbrandt counters with a straight right hand.

Turner throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Garbrandt's waist but Garbrandt gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Turner off to one side.
Josh Turner seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Garbrandt stuffs the takedown attempt from Turner. Turner gets slowly back to his feet.
Garbrandt jabs Turner to the body, keeping him at a distance.
Turner darts in trying to clinch
and Garbrandt counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
A combination from Garbrandt does no damage.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Turner shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Garbrandt as he jumps to the side.

Turner drives through with a takedown into Garbrandt's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Turner won't allow Garbrandt to get back to his feet.

Garbrandt wants to control the position but Turner says "no thanks buddy" and passes to half guard.
Turner seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Garbrandt does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Turner tries to pass to full mount but Garbrandt defends it.
Garbrandt is trying to stand.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Garbrandt is staying active underneath Turner, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
In the pre-fight buildup videos we saw Turner working his ground and pound in the gym. He isn't landing a great percentage of his ground strikes so far though.
Garbrandt wants to control but Turner is keeping busy and won't allow it.

Turner is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Garbrandt is just riding it out for now. Turner eventually gives up the hold.

Garbrandt wants to get back to full guard but Turner has mounted him!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Turner tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.

Turner looking to secure an arm triangle but Garbrandt defends it well.
Turner trying to control but he's not successful this time.

Garbrandt tries to reverse the position but Turner maintains control.

Garbrandt tries to control Turner's head but Turner pushes him back down and moves quickly to lock up an arm here - he's swung around for an armbar! Will he get it??? Yes! Garbrandt is tapping out! Lovely Jiu Jitsu there!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:30 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (armbar). Josh Turner!
During a confident post fight interview, Josh Turner thanked all his fans. He seemed very genuine when describing how motivated his fans keep him.
