PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Anton Mendez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Amadeus Venturo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Amadeus Venturo will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Anton Mendez!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Amadeus Venturo!
The judges for this bout are William Peck, Trevor Gratis and Alec Ball.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Venturo looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Mendez is looking to counter punch.
Mendez throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Sloppy strikes from Venturo. Those never looked like landing.

Mendez rushes Venturo and presses him up against the cage.
Mendez blocks an uppercut.

Mendez's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Venturo with a hook.
Mendez checks the leg kick.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Venturo misses with a low kick.
Mendez shoots for a takedown but Venturo saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Mendez takes one on the chin but seems OK.
Mendez throws a looping overhand right but Venturo ducks down to avoid it.

Mendez instigates a clinch.

Venturo tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Venturo prevents a body shot from Mendez.
Venturo is trying to break free.
Venturo wants to break the clinch but can't.
Venturo has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.

Venturo wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Mendez has him pressed against the cage.
Mendez could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

Mendez pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Mendez closes this distance looking for a takedown but Venturo circles away.
Mendez misses with a looping left.
Venturo lands a jab followed by a nice looking cross.
Venturo lands a jab to the nose.
Venturo moving in and out of range nicely, whilst landing the scoring shot.
Venturo attempts a leg kick but it's missed by a good margin.
Mendez takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch.
Mendez is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.
Venturo misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Venturo finds nothing but air with that leg kick attempt.

Venturo tries to work over Mendez's front leg with a kick but Mendez checks it.
Mendez keeping at a good range here, avoiding a leg kick.
Venturo throws a low kick but his opponent is out of range.
Venturo ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.

Mendez has taken the fight to the clinch.
Both fighters working to control the clinch.
Venturo is trying to push Mendez away but Mendez has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.

Mendez breaks from the clinch.
Mendez shoots for a double leg takedown but Venturo sprawls well. He's pushed Mendez's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Anton Mendez. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Nice jab there from Venturo.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Venturo cracks Mendez with a right hand to the side of the head.
Amadeus Venturo is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
A combination from Venturo does no damage.
Venturo throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Venturo lands with an overhand left.
Venturo misses with a low kick.
Venturo misses with a low kick.
Oooooooooooh, not good. A low kick from Venturo lands where it shouldn't have, right in the... well, you know what he did? He kicked him in the penis. He's injured, injured bad. The referee sends both fighters to their corners and Mendez has 5 minutes to recover. He's OK now though... a thumbs up from Mendez and we're back underway with a touch of gloves.
An attempted straight right counter from Mendez misses the target.
Venturo lands with a nice body punch.
Venturo is using his reach advantage to land shots from outside his opponent's range.
Venturo is moving around nicely and scores here with a single head shot.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Mendez drops his hands and takes a jab to the jaw for his troubles.
Venturo throws a predictable looking body shot
and Mendez counters with a stiff right hand.
Nice takedown defense from Venturo. No joy for Mendez on that attempt.
Mendez showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Venturo.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Amadeus Venturo dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.



A momentary lapse in concentration from Venturo enables Mendez to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Venturo manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
Venturo wants to get back to his feet but he's too absorbed in his own little project and Mendez manages to pass to side control.

Venturo is looking to get full guard. It looks like he might be successful but at the last minute Mendez jumps into side control!

Mendez gets to mount! Venturo was on the offensive and wasn't defending properly.
Venturo has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Venturo is flailing around, obviously not happy about being mounted. Mendez locks hold of one of his arms and spins for an armbar. He's got it! Venturo is forced to tap!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:39 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Anton Mendez!
