PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Mohammed Franks (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kay Kowalski (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The atmosphere really building for this one as we go over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Mohammed Franks!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Kay Kowalski!
The judges for this bout are Paulsen Ambrosius, Daniel Blasius and Albert Achterberg.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Franks shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Kowalski as he jumps to the side.

Kowalski darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Franks controlling the position well.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Kowalski wants to take a breather but Franks is having none of it.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Kowalski is stalling here. Franks is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Kowalski seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Franks has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work.
Franks moving around in side mount but really he's just happy to control for now.

Franks tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Franks has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Kowalski being controlled for a moment.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Franks working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.

Kowalski is trying to control Franks's posture but Franks avoids it.

Franks happy to just control the position for now.
Kowalski is looking for a sweep.
Kowalski is looking to slip a leg under and get half guard but Franks is one step ahead and moves to full mount!
Franks pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.

Franks with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.
Franks trying to control but he's not successful this time.
Franks will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Kowalski wants to control but Franks is having none of it.

Franks get's back to his feet.

Kowalski throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Franks was covering up waiting for the punch and Kowalski finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Franks really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Franks pulls Kowalski in close to his closed guard and prevents Kowalski from doing any damage or advancing position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Franks closes this distance looking for a takedown but Kowalski circles away.

Franks tries to keep at a distance but Kowalski has taken the fight into the clinch.
Franks is leaning against Kowalski and scores with a nice uppercut to the body.
A frustrated look appears on Kowalski's face as he tries to break the clinch.

Franks manages to get underhooks and slows down the pace for a moment.

Kowalski drags the fight down to the ground.

Kowalski wants to sweep but no luck.
Kowalski is controlling Franks's posture.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Franks accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Franks postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.
Franks advances to half guard.
The fighters are battling for position here. Kowalski manages to regain full guard. Nice work.
Kowalski being controlled here, momentarily.

Franks drops back looking for a leg! Kowalski is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Kowalski manages to kick Franks off! Franks jumps back into Kowalski's guard.
Franks has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Franks is stalling in the full guard.
Franks tries to free his leg and advance position but Kowalski is retaining full guard.
Franks engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Franks's corner. There ya go! There ya go!

Kowalski has a butterfly guard looking to sweep but Franks has passed into side control.

Franks tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Kowalski is trying to get back to half guard.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Kowalski is trying to control Franks's posture but Franks avoids it.

Franks is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Kowalski has escaped the position, nice work there.

Franks is looking to take a break and control but Kowalski is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!


Kowalski will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Franks shoots for a double leg takedown but Kowalski sprawls well. He's pushed Franks's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Kowalski instigates a clinch.

Kowalski wants to break free but Franks has control.
Kowalski is trying to maintain a safe position but Franks gets an underhook and turns Kowalski into the cage.

Kowalski gets control of Franks's arms and successfully pulls guard. Kowalski will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.

Kowalski is working an open guard so Franks takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Mohammed Franks overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Franks wants to get back to his feet.
You can see the frustration on Franks's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Franks isn't going anywhere.
The ground and pound from Kowalski seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent.
Kowalski wants to stand but Franks is controlling his arm.

The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
Franks is not content to let Kowalski control the position.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

And that's the end of the fight!
Kay Kowalski comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Franks has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
