PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Bobby Sims (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Phill Adams (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Phill Adams will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Bobby Sims!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Phill Adams!
The judges for this bout are Ben Zyskovitsi, Matti Vanhoillinen and Marco Blurström.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Adams drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.

Sims kicks Adams off and gets to his feet.

Adams looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.

Adams is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Sims doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Adams.
Adams prevents Sims from improving his position.
Sims pushes Adams off looking to stand but Adams dives back in and keeps control.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Sims looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Adams is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Sims defends it well.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Adams in particular looking to stall.
Sims is staying active underneath Adams, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

Sims manages to escape and get back to his feet!

Adams feints and as Sims raises his hands in defense, Adams changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Adams postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

Sims looking for a guillotine here but Adams defends easily.
Adams throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Sims works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

Sims is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Adams is pushing down on Sims's leg trying to pass to half guard. Sims is fighting to maintain full guard but Adams has managed to sneak the leg through.

Sims is pulling down on Adams's head to control his posture.
Adams wants to control from the top but Sims keeps moving.
Adams loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.

Adams looking to sit in guard and control but Sims gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Sims tries to keep at a distance but Adams has taken the fight into the clinch.

Sims tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Sims is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Adams to keep the fight standing.
Sims really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Bobby Sims overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Adams is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Adams is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.

Sims stands up from guard. Let's bang!

Adams fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Sims sprawls well initially but Adams persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Adams is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.
Adams wants to lay and pray for a moment but Sims keeps working.

Adams looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Sims gets back to full guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Adams trying to control the position from guard on top but Sims is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Adams slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.

Sims keeping moving, preventing Adams from controlling successfully.
Sims avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Adams is moving around nicely and scores here with a single head shot.

Adams shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Adams is breathing heavily.

Sims has managed to escape just enough to sneak back to his feet but Adams is on him like a limpet, forcing Sims back against the cage.

Good anti-grappling being displayed by Sims as Adams tries to tie him up.
Sims tries to pull guard but Adams holds him up against the cage and eventually Sims drops back down to his feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Bobby Sims. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Adams successfully pulls guard.
Sims distracts Adams with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Sims's corner. There ya go! There ya go!

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Phill Adams showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!

Sims bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Adams's guard.


Sims got a little sloppy there for a moment and Adams has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Sims has managed to get both his arms back between Adams's legs - danger averted.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Sims lands a couple of decent looking shots.
Adams takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Sims working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Adams's head.
Sims is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.
Sims with a nice head shot there.
Sims scoring with punches to the head and body.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Adams is on top in guard.

Adams is looking to work some ground and pound but Sims has wrist control.
Sims not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

Sims has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Adams can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Sims is striking off his back. Adams thinks nothing of it though and passes easily into half guard.
Sims wants to get back to full guard.
Sims trying to hold on to Adams's head to control him but Adams postures up.
Adams wants to pass the guard but Sims is defending well.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Adams connects with a nice short shot to Sims's temple.

Adams postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Sims is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Adams, into his guard.

Sims content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Sims's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Adams is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Sims defends well.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Bobby Sims.
I think Sims has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
