PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Matthew Metis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Noel Zombie (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Metis comes to the cage accompanied by Right Now - Van Halen. Zombie has chosen Rob Zombie - Dead Girl Superstar as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 3 - 1, fighting out of New York, Matthew Metis!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of New York, Noel Zombie!
The judges for this bout are Dean Styles, John Roberts and Reed Andrews.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Zombie throws a low kick but it's checked well by Metis.
Metis misses with a takedown attempt - Zombie sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Zombie misses the shot to the body.
Zombie pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Zombie misses with a hook. Metis ducked under it nicely.
Metis keeps the fight on the outside.
Metis ducks right into an uppercut from Zombie.


It looks like Matthew Metis has been cut.
A head kick misses from Metis.
Zombie throws a jab but it's blocked by Metis.
Metis checks the leg kick nicely there.
Metis uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Zombie.
Zombie misses with a wild combination.
Zombie tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Metis showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Zombie.

Zombie looks to land a left hand but Metis moved out of range nicely.

Metis tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Zombie swivels and escapes.
Metis ducks under a wild hook from Zombie.
Zombie is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Metis.

Zombie wants to get back to full guard.

Metis wants to lay and pray for a moment but Zombie keeps working.

Metis wants to work for an arm triangle but Zombie is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Zombie has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Metis is working away from the top position though.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Zombie throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Zombie misses with an uppercut.
Zombie tries to grapple but his opponent circles

and Metis counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Zombie keeping moving, preventing Metis from controlling successfully.

Metis stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Zombie swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Metis throwing strikes but missing.
Metis passes Zombie's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Metis lands strikes from half guard.

Metis is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Metis is breathing heavily.
Zombie is trying to maintain the position but Metis is very close to passing his half guard.

Metis is looking for a kimura but Zombie is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Metis to get the leverage.

Zombie looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Metis is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Zombie!

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Zombie wants to hold on but Metis pushes him away.
Zombie can't escape the position.
Zombie tries to hold on but Metis postures up.
You get the feeling that Zombie really doesn't like being in this position too much.

Metis working to secure an arm triangle but it's not happening for him just yet.
Zombie is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Zombie is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Zombie throws a right hand that Metis ducks under and follows up with a left that Metis also avoids with ease.
Zombie shoots and misses

so Metis counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Metis is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

Zombie had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Metis is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Zombie Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Metis's back instead.
Zombie has the hooks in. Metis is trying to push off one leg but he has to do so cautiously to avoid being submitted.

Zombie looking for the RNC.
Will Zombie go for the finish here or will he try and keep control of the position?

Metis turns into Zombie and is now in his guard.

Metis trying to control but Zombie is working from the bottom.

Metis drops back looking for a leg! Zombie is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Zombie manages to kick Metis off! Metis jumps back into Zombie's guard.
Metis wants to control from the top but Zombie keeps moving.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Zombie is looking to clinch.
Metis defending well as Zombie loads up on a big left hand.
Nice uppercut lands for Zombie. That snapped Metis's head back.
Zombie throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Zombie tries for a takedown but Metis circles away easily
and Metis counters with a one-two to the body.
Zombie tries to clinch but Metis moves away

and Metis decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Zombie's guard.
Metis trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.

Zombie is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Metis slips nicely into half guard.
Zombie trying to control but Metis postures up.

Metis is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Zombie makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Zombie.

Zombie wants to control but instead he gets his guard passed and Metis is now in half guard.
Metis passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Zombie!

Zombie defends a decent attempt at a guillotine from Metis.
Zombie slips a leg in and gets back to half guard.
Zombie trying to hold on to Metis's head to control him but Metis postures up.

Metis wants to pass the guard but Zombie is defending well.
Metis prevents Zombie from improving his position.
Metis will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Zombie is controlling Metis's position as best he can from this difficult position.
Zombie moves into full guard.
Metis trying to control the position from guard on top but Zombie is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Metis is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Zombie makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Zombie.
Zombie is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Matthew Metis overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Metis postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

Metis avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Zombie is trying to keep Metis in close.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Zombie working away from the bottom but not quite defensive enough there because Metis has passed into half guard!

Metis is looking for a kimura but Zombie is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Metis to get the leverage.

Zombie has his foot on Metis's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Metis works his way back into a safe position though.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Zombie not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

Metis fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Zombie sprawls well initially but Metis persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

Metis stands up from the dominant position, so we're back on the feet.
Metis takes a body punch but keeps moving.
Zombie tries to clinch but Metis moves out of range.

Zombie with a nice looking leg kick. You could hear that one land in a back row.

and Metis counters with a takedown into side control.
Metis is looking to take a break and control but Zombie is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Metis wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Zombie, who protects the arm well.

Zombie prevents Metis from improving position.
Zombie manages to work his way to half guard, despite Metis's best efforts.

Metis is trying to work for a kimura but Zombie is defending well.
Noel Zombie has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Metis looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Metis is working for a submission of some sort.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Metis, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
