Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Walton Avila!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Archie Niven!
The judges for this bout are Yves DeLean, Alec Ball and Dillan Fox.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Avila closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Niven did well to prevent Avila getting side control.
Niven looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight!
Avila controlling the pace.
Niven is looking for a sweep. Avila is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Avila wants to stand up but Niven has a hold of him and won't allow it.
Avila lands with a punch from half guard.
Avila performing his best blanket impression for a moment.

Avila's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.

Avila looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Niven has hold of one of Avila's legs. Avila is fighting the takedown attempt but Niven gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard.
Avila is looking to stand up but Niven isn't so interested in that idea.

Avila has his feet on Niven's hips. He pushes off and gets to his feet. Nice work.
Niven dives in and grabs Avila's left leg, looking for a takedown. Avila pushes down on Niven's head and hops out.
Avila shoots in and drives through. Niven sprawls well.

Avila could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Niven has had enough of the clinch but Avila keeps him there for the moment.

Niven is trying to control the position but Avila postures up.

Avila perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

Niven looking to stall.
Avila is pushing Niven up against the cage, for a bit of lean and pray action. Action being used the in the loosest possible sense of the word.
Avila keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Niven's efforts to push away.
Niven is trying to break free.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Niven is trying to break the clinch but Avila is controlling him.

Avila seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Avila dives in for a single leg takedown but Niven sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.

Niven forces Avila back against the cage and clinches.

Avila lands an elbow inside.

Avila's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

Niven gets a clinch.
Avila blocks an elbow strike.
Avila blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning.

Avila works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard.
Avila is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
Avila might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Further stalling from Avila.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Walton Avila dominated that second round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!


Niven tries for a takedown but Avila circles away easily

and Avila counters by clinching up.
Avila tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Niven smiles and moves away.
Avila shoots for a double leg takedown but Niven sprawls well. He's pushed Avila's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Avila dives in and scores a takedown into Niven's guard.
Avila postures up in Niven's guard and throws a big left but Niven blocks it.
Avila is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Niven can do to turn this around?
Niven controls Avila momentarily but Avila frees himself.

Avila seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Niven takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Avila is looking to work some ground and pound but Niven has wrist control.

Avila not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Walton Avila overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Avila trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Avila rushes Niven and presses him up against the cage.

Avila has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Niven uses from the top position.

Niven would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Niven gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Avila's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Avila seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Niven for as long as he can get away with.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Avila has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

Avila gets in close and instigates a clinch.

And that's the end of the fight!
Walton Avila showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Avila has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
