PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Youri Cornelis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Brad Pickett (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Youri Cornelis!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Brad Pickett!
The judges for this bout are Paul Aken, Wagner Zegers and Nard Betker.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Pickett delivers a nice body kick.
Pickett looks to land a body kick but Cornelis moved away.
Cornelis tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Pickett manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Pickett is looking to land body kicks.
Cornelis tries to counter with a takedown but Pickett is quick to defend against it.
Pickett stuffs the takedown attempt from Cornelis. Cornelis gets slowly back to his feet.
Pickett appeared to try and counter that last move with a leg kick.

Cornelis shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Cornelis showed some decent athleticism there.
Pickett wants to get back to full guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Well, if Cornelis is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

Cornelis seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Pickett for as long as he can get away with.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Pickett makes some distance and scrambles quickly back to his feet. Nice work!
Pickett lands a head kick. Cornelis smiles back at him and beckons him forward.
Cornelis walks into a jab.
Pickett leaves Cornelis with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

Pickett connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there.
Pickett ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Cornelis moves away.

Pickett lands with a hook. Cornelis tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Pickett throws a right hand that Cornelis ducks under and follows up with a left that Cornelis also avoids with ease.
Cornelis throws a body punch but Pickett moves out of range.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Pickett connects with a single shot there.
Cornelis looks to land a combination but Pickett avoids it well.
Despite the aggression on Pickett's face he doesn't fully commit to the counter.
Cornelis moves in looking to clinch but Pickett pushes him off.
Pickett digs a good body shot into Cornelis's ribs.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Brad Pickett dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

A nice leg kick lands there from Pickett.

Cornelis takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness.
Pickett is throwing a lot of body shots here, looking to wear down Cornelis rather than just go for the knockout.

Donk. Pickett catches Cornelis right on the button with a cross.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

and Pickett counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Cornelis thinking.

Pickett paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button.
Cornelis shoots and misses
and Cornelis takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.

Pickett thuds his shin into the meat of Cornelis's side.
Pickett throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Cornelis stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.
Pickett connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Cornelis momentarily.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Pickett lands with a nice low kick. That'll leave a bruise.

Cornelis is on the wrong end of a nice combination from Pickett.

Cornelis jumps guard but Pickett stands there with Cornelis around his waist. Cornelis gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

Brad Pickett showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

That's a knee to de groin and it's over and out! Cornelis crumples to the ground after an illegal strike from Pickett - the referee stops the clock and Cornelis gets 5 minutes to recover from that one. "I'm sorry" says Pickett. Cornelis manages to get back to his feet and the fight resumes.

Brad Pickett comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Pickett has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
