PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Wilbur Barlow (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Russell Bell (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). On his way into the cage it seems that Wilbur Barlow has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Wilbur Barlow seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Russell Bell!
The judges for this bout are Mauricio Rocha, Leandro Rodrigues and Alexandre Firmino.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Bell lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook.

It looks like Wilbur Barlow has been cut.

Bell closes the distance and pushes Barlow back into the cage.
Barlow jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Bell walks away with a smile on his face. Barlow gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

Bell clinches.

Bell has hold of one of Barlow's legs. Barlow is fighting the takedown attempt but Bell gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard.

The fighters are working up against the cage. Barlow manages to wriggle his way back to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched against the cage.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Barlow blocks an uppercut.
Bell lands a knee to the body.
Barlow blocks a body shot from Bell.
Barlow tries a body shot but Bell blocks it.

Bell breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Barlow shoots for a takedown but Bell saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Ooooh, nice body kick lands from Bell. Barlow shrugs it off though.
Barlow is breathing heavily.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Bell has taken the fight to the clinch.

Bell escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Bell closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Barlow quickly recovers to half guard.
Bell drops an elbow to the side of Barlow's head.
Bell tries to pass the half guard into mount. Barlow knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Barlow really is a fat lump.
Barlow is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Bell moves nicely into side control.
Bell is working Barlow over with some ground and pound from side control.
Barlow is positioning himself to get back to half guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Bell cracks Barlow with a big elbow.

Bell is trying to get an arm triangle but Barlow is defending well.
Bell trying to control the position but Barlow is working away.

Bell decides to take the fight back to the feet.

Bell scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Bell performing his best blanket impression for a moment.

Bell is trying to control. Barlow wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Bell perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
Barlow has a hand on Bell's thigh, trying to get back to full guard. Bell takes advantage of the position though and mounts him!

Barlow is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Bell lands a couple of good shots and Barlow has given up his back, trying to escape the position!

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Bell is throwing strikes from the back here. Oh that last one was to the back of the head. Bell gets a warning from the referee. He throws another strike to the back of the head straight away though and the referee has seen enough. He breaks up the two fighters and stands them back up. Bell gets a real talking to here and is lucky not to get a point deducted. Bell apologises and we restart here on the feet.

Bell gets a double leg takedown into Barlow's guard.

Barlow manages to wriggle out and sneak his way back up to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched up against the cage.

Barlow is rocked!
Oh Barlow is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Bell lands an uppercut in the clinch that drops Barlow to his knees! Bell keeps firing more shots against his stricken opponent and the referee jumps in to save him!
