The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Dean scores with a takedown into McCarel's guard.
McCarel working a defensive guard here.
Dean postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
McCarel controls Dean momentarily but Dean frees himself.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Dean's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
Dean pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. McCarel is keeping the position for now.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Dean trying to control but McCarel is working from the bottom.
Dean wants to pass the guard but McCarel is keeping the position.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Dean shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
McCarel could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Dean throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.

McCarel is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Dean scores with a couple of nice shots.

It looks like Steven McCarel has been cut.
Dean passes to full mount!

Dean is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But McCarel has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from McCarel!
Dean will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.
Dean seems keen to control McCarel's posture.
McCarel wants to control from the top but Dean keeps moving.

Dean pushes McCarel off and scrambles back to his feet.

McCarel throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Dean.

Dean gets a clinch.

McCarel manages to break the clinch.

Dean moves into the clinch successfully.
McCarel jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Dean walks away with a smile on his face. McCarel gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Dean tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
McCarel lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh.
Dean is looking to clinch but McCarel is avoiding it.
Dean pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.

McCarel gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

McCarel had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Dean is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. McCarel Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Dean's back instead.
McCarel is breathing heavily.
Dean rolls and manages to get back to half guard. Nicely done.

McCarel blocks the strikes from Dean.
Dean has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. McCarel is working away from the top position though.
McCarel is looking for the mount but instead finds himself back in full guard.
McCarel stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Dean swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Dean wants to sweep but no luck.

Dean is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Dean keeping moving, preventing McCarel from controlling successfully.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Dean lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for McCarel!

Dean pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.
