PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Juan Fillipe (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and OJ Pratt (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Juan Fillipe !
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, OJ Pratt!
The judges for this bout are John Kavanagh, Alyssa Summers and Eddie Farnsworth.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Pratt throws a shot to the body.

Fillipe gets in close and instigates a clinch.

Pratt manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.
Pratt seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.
Fillipe won't allow Pratt to get back to his feet.

Pratt working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Fillipe doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Fillipe manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Fillipe controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Fillipe sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Pratt's guard.

Pratt wants to get back to full guard.

Fillipe is working for a kimura but Pratt is defending it quite comfortably.

Fillipe looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Pratt blocking the ground and pound attempt from Fillipe .
Fillipe is nestled in close to Pratt, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
Fillipe not doing much here.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Fillipe connects with a nice short shot to Pratt's temple.

Fillipe is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Pratt sees it coming and defends easily.

Pratt has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Fillipe is working away from the top position though.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Pratt tries to regain full guard. Instead though, Fillipe has advanced to mount. Uh oh.

Pratt tries to reverse the position but Fillipe maintains control.

Fillipe is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Pratt can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.

Pratt is in a horrible position here. Fillipe smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


A bone on bone clash there as Fillipe blocks the leg kick.

Pratt closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
The ground and pound from Pratt seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent.
Pratt is looking to take a break and control but Fillipe is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Fillipe holds on to Pratt's head and controls the position momentarily.
Fillipe is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Pratt can do to turn this around?

Fillipe trying to hold on to Pratt's head to control him but Pratt postures up.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Pratt drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Fillipe pulls Pratt in close to his closed guard and prevents Pratt from doing any damage or advancing position.

Pratt in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.

Pratt wants to pass the guard but Fillipe is keeping the position.
Fillipe is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Fillipe enables Pratt to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Fillipe manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

Pratt has gone for a leg lock! Fillipe slips out almost immediately though and dives into Pratt's guard.

Fillipe would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but OJ Pratt will probably get the nod - 10:9.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. And we move into the final round!



Pratt shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Fillipe 's guard.

Fillipe looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Pratt looking to sit in guard and control but Fillipe gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Fillipe wants to get up but he can't break Pratt's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
Pratt really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Fillipe . If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Fillipe is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

Pratt is looking to stand up but Fillipe isn't so interested in that idea.
Pratt can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Fillipe controls the pace.
Fillipe wants to control from the top but Pratt keeps moving.
Pratt is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Fillipe seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Pratt tries to land a sweep but no joy.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Fillipe passes Pratt's left leg - he's now in half guard.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Fillipe wants to stand up but Pratt is controlling the position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Fillipe looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.
Fillipe seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Pratt does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Nice body punch from Pratt.

Pratt moves into the clinch.
Fillipe is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Pratt is defending well.
Pratt has had enough of the clinch but Fillipe keeps him there for the moment.

Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Pratt tries to land a knee to the body but he is off balance and Fillipe avoids it.

Fillipe pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Pratt closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Fillipe quickly recovers to half guard.
Fillipe tries to roll over but Pratt keeps him under control.
Pratt stalling.

Pratt is trying to get back to his feet now but his leg is trapped.
Pratt is stalling here. Fillipe is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Pratt seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Fillipe has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work.

Fillipe is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Pratt has escaped the position, nice work there.
Fillipe misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.
