The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Patterson cracks a nice hook into Boone's ribs.
A head kick by Patterson misses
and Boone connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Patterson throws a nice head kick!

Boone looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Boone lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Patterson knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Boone on the ground.

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Boone connects with a nice short shot to Patterson's temple.
Boone passes the guard and advances to mount!
Patterson is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Patterson is desperately trying to improve his position but Boone has a good base and remains in mount.
Boone lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.
Patterson is squirming around, avoiding Boone's attempts to control the action.
Patterson is in all sorts of trouble here.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Patterson throws a front kick that sends Boone stumbling back into the cage.
Patterson misses with a head kick.
Boone rushes in with a sloppy looking punch
and Boone takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Patterson throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
A nice leg kick lands there from Patterson.
Boone uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Patterson.
Boone takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.
Boone misses with a takedown attempt - Patterson sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Patterson clinches up with Boone and pushes him back against the cage.
The step up in weight doesn't seem to be a problem for Boone. He's performing admirably here against the bigger man.
Still in the clinch, Patterson scores with a nice short uppercut.
Boone takes a shot to the head.

With the fighters up against the cage, Patterson throws an elbow but misses.

Boone pulls Patterson into guard.
Patterson would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

Boone had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Patterson defends it easily.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
A head kick misses from Patterson.
Patterson feints with a shoulder and throws a nice leg kick to Boone's calf.
Patterson throws a sloppy head kick and Boone moves out of range easily.
Patterson tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Boone was well out of range. Poor timing from Patterson.

Patterson takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

That kick from Patterson tenderised Boone's leg. Boone is trying to keep his angry face on.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!

and Patterson scores with a counter punch that sends Boone to the canvas! Patterson smells blood - he's punishing Boone with more strikes and the ref has stopped it! Boone has no idea where he is - he's tackled the ref... oh dear, poor guy, the crowd is in hysterics!

After winning the bout, Floyd Patterson thanked all his fans and promised he'd do even better in his next fight. The crowd seemed to love his humility.
