PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Bobby Sims (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Apexi Jr (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). On his way into the cage it seems that Bobby Sims has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Bobby Sims seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

The judges for this bout are Tarja Halkonen, Arvi Lind and Matti Vanhoillinen.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Jr closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Sims blocking the ground and pound attempt from Jr.
Sims is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Jr is trying to control the action in half guard but Sims is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Jr not doing much here.
Jr thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Sims's head.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Jr is just content to waste time from the top position. Sims takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard.
Jr slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.

Sims looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Jr throws a big elbow that misses.

A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Sims holds on and takes a little breather.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Jr postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Sims will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Apexi Jr seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Jr is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Sims's shoulder. That is not cool.

Jr is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Sims has escaped the position, nice work there.
Sims tries to improve position but can't.
Sims defending against the ground and pound.
Sims is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Jr's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.

Jr looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Sims moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
Jr must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Jr closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Sims did well to prevent Jr getting side control.

That's time! Sims's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.

Jr seems to be working for a kimura but Sims defends the submission attempt.
Sims wants to control but Jr is keeping busy.
Jr uses his free foot to push down on Sims's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Sims.

Sims is trying to stand back up but Jr is controlling him
Jr stalling away here and it's allowed Sims to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard.
Sims manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Jr manages to get himself to full guard.

Jr turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Jr manages to end up in side control.

If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

Jr darts in and clinches Sims up against the cage.

Sims jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Jr walks away with a smile on his face. Sims gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

Jr gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Jr lands a body punch - he's looking to wear down Sims.

Jr manages to pull guard.
Jr is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Sims scores with a decent looking elbow strike.

Jr manages to wriggle out and sneak his way back up to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched up against the cage.

Sims jumps guard and drags Jr to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.

Sims is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Jr defends well.

Apexi Jr comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Jr has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
