PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Josip Ruzic (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Bobby Tupper V (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Ruzic's ring entrance music is that housewives' favourite, Kid N Play - Gettin' Funky. I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Bobby Tupper V was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 17 - 31 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Bobby Tupper V!
The judges for this bout are Timothy Bukovac, Don Winkell and Frank Antenori.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ruzic moves into range and throws a lovely three punch combination.

It looks like Bobby Tupper V has been cut.
Some wild striking there from Ruzic.
Ruzic connects with a high kick.
Ruzic shoots in but no luck this time.
Tupper V shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Ruzic counters with a lovely straight right hand!
Tupper V misses with a jab, cross combination.

Ruzic shoots in and bounces Tupper V off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Tupper V wants to stand up but Ruzic is controlling him.
Ruzic content to stall in guard here.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Tupper V tries to land a sweep but no joy.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Ruzic postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.
Ruzic trying to control but Tupper V is working from the bottom.
Tupper V wants to control the position but Ruzic says "no thanks buddy" and passes to half guard.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Ruzic is looking for a kimura but Tupper V is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Ruzic to get the leverage.

Tupper V wants to get back to full guard but Ruzic has passed into side control.
Ruzic wants to lay and pray for a moment but Tupper V keeps working.
Tupper V is trying to control Ruzic's posture but Ruzic avoids it.
Ruzic throws a knee to the body but it doesn't do much damage.

Tupper V throws an elbow to the body but it doesn't land.

Ruzic has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.
Tupper V misses with a jab, cross combination.
Tupper V takes a nasty kick to the mid section... That should keep him thinking. Does he try and block and risk a head kick landing?

Ruzic closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.

Ruzic drags the fight down to the ground.
Ruzic seems keen to control Tupper V's posture.
Tupper V trying to control but Ruzic is working from the bottom.
Ruzic controls Tupper V momentarily but Tupper V frees himself.
Ruzic will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.

Ruzic has a closed guard, preventing Tupper V from standing up.
Tupper V passes into half guard.
Ruzic is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Tupper V scores with a couple of good hammerfists.
Ruzic wants to get back to full guard.
Tupper V wants to stand up but Ruzic has a hold of him and won't allow it.
Ruzic has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Tupper V is working away from the top position though.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Tupper V is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Ruzic defends it well.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!

Ruzic keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Ruzic tries to counter by moving into the clinch but Tupper V manages to circle out of the way.
Ruzic tries to grapple but his opponent circles
and Tupper V counters with a nice uppercut.
Ruzic fakes a jab and throws a low kick but Tupper V checks it well.
Tupper V swats away the attempt to clinch by Ruzic.
Ruzic shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Tupper V defends it nicely.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Ruzic wants to clinch but Tupper V slips to the side
and Tupper V counters with a three punch combo that has Ruzic backing up. Ruzic nods at Tupper V to acknowledge the strikes.

Ruzic fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Tupper V to the ground. Ruzic is now in Tupper V's guard.

Ruzic won't allow Tupper V to get back to his feet.
Ruzic stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Tupper V swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Tupper V is trying to keep Ruzic in close.

Ruzic with a nice head shot there.
Ruzic trying to control the position from guard on top but Tupper V is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Ruzic controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
A bone on bone clash there as Ruzic blocks the leg kick.
Ruzic shoots in for a takedown but Tupper V shows good takedown defense.
Ruzic goes for a double leg but Tupper V avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Tupper V continues to drive forward.
And Tupper V tries to counter it with a takedown but Ruzic pushes his down on his head and steps out.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Josip Ruzic. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Ruzic content to sit in guard, stalling... Great. Oh but he could get punished here because Tupper V has locked up a guillotine! Tupper V's face is contorted as he sqeezes tight on the submission attempt - will he finish? Ruzic is holding on here and Tupper V must be using up a lot of energy. Ruzic has gone limp! He's out! He's out cold! Tupper V gets to his feet, tossing aside his stricken foe. Arms raised, he milks the applause from the crowd. Great submission!
