Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Mendel Anshel (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Elias Irving (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Anshel comes into the arena with Tool - Jambi blaring out of the sound system. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Mendel Anshel!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Elias Irving!
The judges for this bout are Summer Carpenter, Ben Hemmingworth and Ron Honeybunn.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Irving shoots in for a double leg but Anshel sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Irving shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Anshel defends it nicely.

Anshel closes the distance and clinches.

Anshel manages to break the clinch.
Irving has been working on his striking defense in training and it's paying off as Anshel is landing a low percentage of strikes.
Irving tries for a takedown but Anshel sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Mendel Anshel has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Elias Irving.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Anshel has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.
Anshel's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

Anshel wants to sweep but no luck.

Irving trying to control but Anshel is working from the bottom.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Anshel holds on and takes a little breather.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Anshel shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.

Anshel drops back looking for a leg! Irving is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Irving manages to kick Anshel off! Anshel jumps back into Irving's guard.

Anshel seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Irving for as long as he can get away with.
Anshel continues to stall.
Irving can't keep his opponent in guard - Anshel advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Anshel content to control rather than advance.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Further stalling from Anshel.
Anshel has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
Anshel is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount!
BOOM! Anshel connects with a massive shot to the dome!
Anshel avoids the attempt from Irving to control.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Anshel tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
If it seems like I'm not saying a lot, it's just because Anshel is stinking the place up with his stalling.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's time! Back to the action!


Anshel shoots in for a double leg but Irving sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Anshel slaps away a takedown attempt from Irving, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Irving tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Anshel defends well and Irving ends up having to push Anshel into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.

Anshel changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Irving looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Anshel advances to full mount.
Anshel takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

Irving is breathing heavily.
Anshel prevents Irving from getting the reversal.

Anshel swings around for an armbar and he's got it! Wow, that came out of nowhere! What a finish!

Our winner, Mendel Anshel, made sure he spent some time buttering up the crowd during his post fight interview, which will no doubt bring him a few more fans.
