PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Steve Vega (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Daniel Kint (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys are coming into the fight with injuries so let's see if that has a bearing on the fight. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 17 - 16 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Steve Vega!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 7 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Daniel Kint!
The judges for this bout are Konstantin Menshow, Ivan Kurochkin and Aleksandr Martynov.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kint lands a jab to Vega's midsection.
Kint throws a body kick, spinning off balance
and Vega counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Kint circles away from the clinch attempt.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Vega.
Vega has knee on belly and moves into mount.
Kint is squirming around, avoiding Vega's attempts to control the action.
Kint blocking the ground and pound.
Vega trying to control but Kint is having none of it.

Vega is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Kint has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Kint!
Kint looks winded!
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Vega is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.


That's one minute gone in the round.
Vega wants to pass to mount but Kint is defending the position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Vega wants to lay and pray for a moment but Kint keeps working.

Vega is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Vega is looking to pass Kint's guard but actually Kint recovers to full guard.
Vega wants to pass the guard but Kint is keeping the position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Vega connects with a couple of short punches.
Vega wants to control from the top but Kint keeps moving.
Vega trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Vega passes Kint's left leg - he's now in half guard.
Vega wants to pass the guard but Kint is defending well.
Vega missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.
Vega trying to control the action but Kint is working from the bottom.
Vega is looking to stall here but Kint recovers full guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Kint preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
Kint is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Vega looking to pass the guard.
Vega sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Kint's guard.
Vega is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Kint!
Vega fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!
Vega landing strikes from the mount.
Vega lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning.
Vega controlling the position easily from mount.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Vega looking to control but Kint is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
Kint takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position.

Vega has hold of Kint's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Kint manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.

Vega is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Kint has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Kint!
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Vega trying to keep a closed guard but Kint is proving a slippery customer.

Vega has his foot on Kint's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Kint works his way back into a safe position though.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Steve Vega dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Vega throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Kint defending well as Vega loads up on a big left hand.
Kint avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
Despite the aggression on Kint's face he doesn't fully commit to the counter.

Vega fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Kint, pushing him back against the cage.
Vega blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning.
Kint takes an elbow to the forehead.
Vega looking for a takedown.

Kint has dropped down and is working for a takedown. Vega is trying to keep an underhook but Kint manages to get the takedown into half guard.
Vega gets back to full guard.
Vega is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Kint can do to turn this around?
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Vega looking for a triangle here. Kint is fighting it but it looks tight! Vega pulls the arm across and this one won't last much longer! Nope, Kint is tapping out - this one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:56 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle Choke). Steve Vega!
During a confident post fight interview, Steve Vega thanked all his fans. He seemed very genuine when describing how motivated his fans keep him.
