The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kavanagh Jnr throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Cruz throws a big counter combination but Kavanagh Jnr scrambles out of danger and avoids any damage.
Kavanagh Jnr fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.

Kavanagh Jnr tries to keep at a distance but Cruz has taken the fight into the clinch.

Cruz is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Kavanagh Jnr is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Kavanagh Jnr.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Cruz shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Kavanagh Jnr's guard.

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Cruz connects with a nice short shot to Kavanagh Jnr's temple.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Cruz, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
