PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Tito Gomez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Grzegorz Rundowski (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). On his way into the cage it seems that Tito Gomez has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Tito Gomez seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 10 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Grzegorz Rundowski!
The judges for this bout are Matheus Silva, Luis Engracia and Mauricio Rocha.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sloppy strikes from Gomez. Those never looked like landing.
Rundowski looks like he wants to counter punch here.
Gomez throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Rundowski swings away with a counter right hand but no contact made.
Some wild striking there from Rundowski.
A big right from Gomez misses.
As Gomez backs off Rundowski throws a huge counter combo but Gomez manages to avoid it all.
Gomez tries to clinch up.
Gomez throws a lazy head kick
and Rundowski counters with a stiff right hand.
Tito Gomez seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Gomez misses with a right hand
and Rundowski makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.

Rundowski drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.

Rundowski grinds an elbow into Gomez's temple.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Rundowski works a knee to the body and follows up with a nice elbow to the head.
Gomez is looking to reverse the position.

Rundowski working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.

Rundowski controls the position.
Gomez tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Gomez is trying to buck Rundowski off.
Rundowski is staying tight to Gomez's torso, preventing him from escaping.
Gomez stops Rundowski from passing to mount.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Rundowski wants to take a breather but Gomez manages to regain guard - a lesson learnt for Rundowski.
Rundowski is in close to Gomez's body, working some short punches and elbows.
Gomez has momentary wrist control but Rundowski slips an elbow through the middle.

Gomez escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Rundowski gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Gomez wants to control the position but Rundowski says "no thanks buddy" and passes to half guard.
Gomez is trying to control but can't.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Rundowski connects with a nice short shot to Gomez's temple.
Gomez has improved his flexibility recently so we will have to see if he can use that to his advantage.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Rundowski stands up from half guard... He's had enough of that ground malarky for the time being.
Gomez misses with a combination
and Rundowski counters with a straight punch to the midsection.
Gomez is breathing heavily.
Gomez fails to land with a series of punches.
Gomez lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Rundowski circles away quickly and effectively.
Rundowski ducks down and throws a hook to the body.

Rundowski looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.

Rundowski drops an elbow to the side of Gomez's head.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Gomez on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Gomez is trying to stand.
Gomez wants to get back to full guard.
Gomez is trying to stand back up but Rundowski is controlling him
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Rundowski lands a nice short elbow.

Rundowski has hold of the far side arm. He's working for the Kimura, can Gomez defend it? Rundowski steps over the head and cranks it - Gomez is tapping out! That was textbook stuff right there - nice submission victory for Rundowski!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:32 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Grzegorz Rundowski!
Grzegorz Rundowski was full of energy after the big win and talked about how he thinks he can do big things in this sport. The crowd were appreciative of his determination to succeed.
In defeat, Tito Gomez stepped up to the mic, saying 'I am just initiating my career. Remember my name! I will be a top fighter in the near future!'.
