And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Shaun Diaz!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Walton has managed to clinch.
Some stalling of biblical proportions here from Walton.

Walton manages to break the clinch.
Shaun Diaz seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Diaz gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Walton pressing his opponent against the cage.
Diaz tries to break the clinch but Walton is controlling the position.
Diaz is working for takedown but Walton is calmly controlling the position for now.

Walton changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Diaz tries to avoid it but Walton manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Diaz to the ground. Diaz escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Walton changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Diaz looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Diaz is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Walton is controlling him well.

Walton content to control the pace. The referee will try and keep them active though.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Diaz manages to work his way to half guard, despite Walton's best efforts.
Diaz wants to control but Walton is keeping busy.
Diaz is trying to avoid being dragged into an even worse position than he's already in but Walton is staying active.
Diaz moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Diaz wants to sweep but no luck.

Diaz feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Diaz wants to control from the top but Walton keeps moving.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Walton holds on and takes a little breather.

Diaz is stalling in the full guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Walton wants to get back to his feet but Diaz is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Diaz would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
Diaz is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

The fighters are working up against the cage. Walton manages to wriggle his way back to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched against the cage.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Walton is pushing Diaz up against the cage, for a bit of lean and pray action. Action being used the in the loosest possible sense of the word.

Diaz is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Diaz rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Walton moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Walton darts in looking for a takedown but Diaz gets double underhooks and turns Walton into the cage.

Diaz has had enough of the clinch but Walton keeps him there for the moment.

Walton escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Walton defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Diaz.

Diaz decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.

Walton pushes Diaz off and gets back to his feet.
Diaz is breathing heavily.

Diaz clinches up with Walton and pushes him back against the cage.

Walton breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Diaz shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Walton as he avoids it easily.
Walton was looking to counter that last move with a shot to the body but he didn't commit.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Walton breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Diaz pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Walton is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Diaz can do to turn this around?
Diaz misses the shot to the body.
Walton tries to counter with a takedown but Diaz is quick to defend against it.

Diaz closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Diaz wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Walton has him pressed against the cage.

Walton breaks from the clinch.
Walton shoots in looking for a takedown. Diaz tries to sprawl out of it but Walton keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Diaz manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Diaz lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh.

Walton scores to the head and body with a nice combination!

Diaz fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Walton to the ground. Diaz is now in Walton's guard.

Gil Walton overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Diaz throwing shots but Walton is blocking nicely.

Walton looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.

Walton seems to be trying to get a kimura but instead Diaz has recovered full guard.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Diaz wants to stand and escape but Walton is having none of it.
Diaz is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Diaz is trying to control the position but Walton postures up.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Diaz is pulling down on Walton's head. It's preventing any offense from Walton, at least for the moment.
Shaun Diaz has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Gil Walton is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Diaz is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Walton is aware though and is defending well.
