Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Hong Giles (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mike Rockhold (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Buckle up people - heeeeeeeeeere we go!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Hong Giles!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Mike Rockhold!
The judges for this bout are Edson Gomes, Daniel Cesar and Matheus Silva.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Rockhold drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.

Rockhold stands up and we're back to a striking position.
Rockhold throws a series of punches but Giles avoids them all with ease.
As Rockhold looks to move away, Giles throws a big counter combo but Rockhold just gets out of the way.
Giles shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Rockhold defends it nicely.
Rockhold is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Giles.
Rockhold gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Giles counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
A left and a right from Rockhold both land. Nice combination.


It looks like Hong Giles has been cut.

Rockhold clinches with his opponent.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Giles jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Rockhold walks away with a smile on his face. Giles gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

Giles drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.

Giles throws a knee to the body but it doesn't do much damage.

Rockhold dodges the ground and pound from Giles.
Giles tries to score with some ground and pound. Rockhold controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.

Giles thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Rockhold managing to avoid any damage from the strikes thrown by Giles.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Giles taking a breather here.
Giles has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Rockhold avoids any damage from the ground and pound of Giles.
Giles could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Rockhold is looking for a sweep.
Rockhold tries to strike but it doesn't land.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Giles lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Rockhold down.

Rockhold is looking to regain half guard here but Giles keeps moving and retains side control.
Giles looks up at the clock and then as Rockhold takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Giles smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!
The strikes coming from Giles are missing the target in this wave of attacks.
Giles sitting in side control, looking to soften his opponent up with elbows and hammerfists but Rockhold is avoiding damage well and looking to escape the position.

Giles working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
Giles is looking to take a break and control but Rockhold is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Giles creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Rockhold sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Rockhold scores with a three punch combo!
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Rockhold connects with a body shot that sends Giles's belly button to the back.

Rockhold looks to land a combination but Giles avoids it well.
It looked like Giles was looking amped, ready to throw a big counter but didn't commit.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Mike Rockhold dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Hong Giles's cut.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!


Rockhold tries for a takedown but Giles sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.

Rockhold closes the distance and pushes Giles back into the cage.
Rockhold has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Rockhold drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Giles gets the underhooks and prevents it.
Rockhold throws a punch but it's blocked by Giles.
Giles is trying to pull guard but Rockhold turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch.
Giles jumps guard but Rockhold stands there with Giles around his waist. Giles gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

Rockhold's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Rockhold throws out a loose jab but Giles uses good head movement to avoid it.
Giles throws a quick counter head kick but Rockhold was just out of range.

Giles takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.
Giles throws a big counter combination but Rockhold scrambles out of danger and avoids any damage.
Mike Rockhold seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Rockhold throws a leg kick but Giles sees it coming and checks it nicely.
Giles went nuts there looking for a big combo counter but none of the flurry connected.
Rockhold throws the kick towards the body but Giles avoids it.
It looked like Giles was looking amped, ready to throw a big counter but didn't commit.

Rockhold has managed to clinch.
Rockhold is clearly stalling here... Pick up the pace son.
Rockhold is breathing heavily.
Rockhold misses with some punches.
Rockhold trying to control the position but instead, Giles has worked for underhooks and has pushed Rockhold into the cage.
Rockhold has had enough of the clinch but Giles keeps him there for the moment.

Rockhold tries to break the clinch but Giles is controlling the position.
Giles can't find room to land a body shot as Rockhold controls the action.
Giles fails to pull guard.

Rockhold tries to break free but Giles pushes him back against the cage.

Rockhold escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Rockhold takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away.

Giles darts in and clinches Rockhold up against the cage.
Giles blocks an elbow strike from Rockhold.
Rockhold tries to pull guard but Giles forces him back to his feet, against the cage.
Giles has Rockhold pressed against the cage, preventing Rockhold from circling away and getting back to striking at range.
Giles lands a right uppercut that snaps the head of Rockhold backwards.
Giles jumps guard but Rockhold turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.

Giles drags the fight down to the ground.

Giles scores with a short punch from the bottom.
Giles is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

Giles is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Rockhold trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Giles is on top in guard.

Giles is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.
Giles trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Giles's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Giles gets to his feet - Rockhold follows without any prompting.
Rockhold throws a sloppy head kick
and Giles counters with a slapping leg kick.
Giles shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Rockhold but Rockhold pushes him off and we're back to square one.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Mike Rockhold will probably get the nod - 10:9.
The cut man is working on Hong Giles's cut.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!


A looping hook to the body misses from Rockhold. Giles does a little dance to reset his feet.
Nice uppercut lands for Rockhold. That snapped Giles's head back.
Rockhold shoots for a takedown but Giles saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
No luck for Rockhold with that takedown attempt.

and Giles counters with a three punch combo that has Rockhold backing up. Rockhold nods at Giles to acknowledge the strikes.

Giles tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Rockhold defends well and Giles ends up having to push Rockhold into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.

Giles has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Rockhold uses from the top position.
Hong Giles overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Giles escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Rockhold gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Giles bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Rockhold's guard.

Giles might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Giles seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

Mike Rockhold is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
Giles throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Rockhold works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Giles shoots in but Rockhold avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Rockhold moves into the clinch.

Hong Giles showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Rockhold has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
