PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Spanky McFaddy (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Heavy Metal (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). On his way into the cage it seems that Spanky McFaddy has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Spanky McFaddy seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Spanky McFaddy!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 5 - 0, fighting out of New York, Heavy Metal!
The judges for this bout are Dean Styles, Jorge Garcia and Chad Campbell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Metal bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
McFaddy wants to control but Metal postures up.
McFaddy is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Metal is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
Metal in side control, trying to ground and pound but not landing this time.

Metal is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but McFaddy is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
McFaddy is looking to regain half guard here but Metal keeps moving and retains side control.
You can see the frustration on McFaddy's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Who's going to make the next move?
Metal tries to land with some ground and pound but misses.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.

McFaddy drives through with a takedown into guard.

McFaddy has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Metal is proving hard to escape from.

McFaddy is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
McFaddy controls from within his opponent's guard.
McFaddy trying to control the position from guard on top but Metal is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Metal looking to hit a scissor sweep but McFaddy is one step ahead there.

Metal is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
McFaddy is breathing heavily.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Metal wants to sweep but no luck.
Metal not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

Metal looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
McFaddy trying to control but Metal is working from the bottom.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
McFaddy is stalling in the full guard.

Metal has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but McFaddy can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Metal is looking for a triangle but McFaddy pushes his legs off easily.

McFaddy is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

Metal looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Metal looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
McFaddy content to stall in guard here.
McFaddy trying to control the position from guard on top but Metal is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Heavy Metal will probably get the nod.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

and McFaddy counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with McFaddy in particular looking to stall.
Metal wants to get back to full guard.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.

The referee stands the fighters back up. Spanky McFaddy just wasn't active enough from the dominant position.

Metal looking to hit a scissor sweep but McFaddy is one step ahead there.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Metal manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. McFaddy manages to get himself to full guard.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Metal accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
McFaddy is trying to control the position but Metal postures up.
Metal won't allow McFaddy to sweep him here.
Metal is looking to stand up but McFaddy won't let him.
Metal with a flurry of punches that miss.
McFaddy seems keen to control Metal's posture.
Metal trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
McFaddy pulls Metal in close to prevent any damage.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

McFaddy gets to his feet. Metal looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!

Spanky McFaddy has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Heavy Metal.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Metal decides to take the fight back to the feet.

McFaddy gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

and Metal counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for McFaddy!

Metal swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and McFaddy is now in Metal's guard. A big mistake from Metal there, giving up the dominant position!

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Spanky McFaddy overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Metal can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as McFaddy controls the pace.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Metal is on top in guard.

And that's the end of the fight!
Heavy Metal comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Metal has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
