Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Edwardo Knox (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Rodrigo Rivieira (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rodrigo Rivieira has the power to score a knockout today if he connects clean with Edwardo Knox's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Edwardo Knox!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Rodrigo Rivieira!
The judges for this bout are Emerson Jorge, Alexandre Firmino and Seu Braga.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rivieira tries to clinch but Knox is having none of it.

Rivieira is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Knox's half guard.
Knox keeping control of the leg, stopping his opponent passing to mount.
Rivieira wants to pass to mount but Knox is defending the position.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Knox is staying active underneath Rivieira, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Knox wants to control but Rivieira is keeping busy.

Rivieira is working for a submission of some sort.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Knox is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Rivieira is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Knox tries to get to full guard but Rivieira has control of the leg.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Rivieira has closed the distance and engaged Knox in a clinch.
Rivieira misses with a hook to the ribs.

Rivieira jumps guard and drags Knox to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.

Knox gets to his feet - Rivieira follows without any prompting.

Rivieira changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Knox looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

Rivieira is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Knox is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Rivieira tries to score with some ground and pound. Knox controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.
Rivieira tries to get to his feet but he's trapped momentarily.

Knox is in a bad position, trying to hold on for dear life but he is really struggling to maintain any sort of control.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Rivieira wants to stand but Knox is controlling his arm.
Knox tries to strike from the bottom but misses.
Knox controls the position for a moment.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Knox is trying to control Rivieira's posture but Rivieira avoids it.

Rivieira is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Knox is controlling him.
Knox tries to stand but Rivieira is controlling from the bottom.
Rivieira is pulling down on Knox's head to control his posture.
Knox has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Rivieira is proving hard to escape from.
Rodrigo Rivieira has got the better of the ground game so far.

Knox wants to stand but Rivieira has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
Knox is in close to Rivieira's body, working some short punches and elbows.

Knox avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Knox throws a strike but Rivieira rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Knox pulls Rivieira in close to his closed guard and prevents Rivieira from doing any damage or advancing position.
Knox knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Rivieira on the ground.
Knox throws a couple of shots from the bottom but they don't land.

Knox has Rivieira pulled in close to control his posture.
Rivieira trying to control the position from guard on top but Knox is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Rivieira is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Rivieira closes the distance but Knox moves to the side

and Knox counters with a nice double leg into half guard.

Knox is looking for a kimura but Rivieira is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Knox to get the leverage.

Knox stands up out of the half guard.

Rivieira shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Knox napping and manages to drive through into side control!
Rivieira wants to stand but Knox has his arm trapped.
Knox wants to control but Rivieira postures up.

Rivieira misses with the ground and pound.
Rivieira throws an elbow but Knox slips to the side and avoids it well.
Knox is trying to control Rivieira's posture but Rivieira avoids it.
Knox trying his best to control but Rivieira has mounted him.
Rivieira looking to control but Knox is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
Knox wants to hold on but Rivieira pushes him away.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Rivieira can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Knox is looking to escape.
Knox tries to hold on but Rivieira pushes him away.

Rodrigo Rivieira showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Knox is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Rivieira wants to control but Knox is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Knox is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position.

Knox is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Rivieira doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Knox.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Rivieira looking to try and escape his hips here, looking for a submission. It looks like he's going for a triangle but Knox is defending well. Rivieira quickly switches to an armbar and extends the arm! Knox has no choice but to tap, to a very quick submission! Wow, that was lightning fast! Rivieira celebrates on the cage, with the crowd.
