PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Tommy Gunn (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Joe Cain (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Tommy Gunn!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Joe Cain!
The judges for this bout are Frank Dennis, Gwen Towbar and Stewart Dunkirk.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Cain ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent.
Cain throws a jab when Gunn was well out of range.
Cain throws an overhand right that lands on Gunn's shoulder, as Gunn tries to avoid the shot.

Gunn closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Gunn throws a strike aimed at the side of Cain's head but Cain avoids it well.
Gunn taking a breather here.
Cain wants to get back to his feet but Gunn drags him back down.

Cain throws his opponent off and manages to get back to his feet! Nicely done!
Cain rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Gunn moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Gunn closes the distance and lands a one-two.


It looks like Joe Cain has been cut.
Gunn shoots in looking for a takedown but Cain manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Gunn's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Cain misses with an uppercut. Gunn saw that one coming.
Gunn wants to take advantage of his opponent's missed offense by moving into the clinch.
Gunn throws a nice looking combination but Cain bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Gunn slips under a jab.
Cain has been spending a lot of time sparring his boxing in the run up to the fight, trying to sharpen up those hands and look for a knockout.
Gunn tries to move into range but Cain moves to the side and lands with a nice right hand.

Gunn gets in close and instigates a clinch.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Gunn is looking to take this one to the mat.
Gunn keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Cain's efforts to push away.

Cain pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Cain listening to his corner there, landing a nice uppercut.
Gunn fails with the takedown.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Tommy Gunn. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Cain misses with a series of wild punches.
Gunn wants to slow Cain down by chopping away at his legs.
Cain looks to land a left hand but Gunn moved out of range nicely.
Cain is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Gunn gets a clinch.
Cain wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Gunn has him pressed against the cage.
Gunn keeps control of Cain as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.

Gunn breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Gunn moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Cain scores with a jab.
Joe Cain seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Cain looks to throw the jab but Gunn is out of range.
Gunn appears to be looking for a big counter.
Horrible takedown attempt by Gunn or perhaps it was just good defense by Cain, which made it look bad.
Cain throws out a counter right but Gunn avoids it with no problem.
Gunn is breathing heavily.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Cain lands the left hand.
Nice straight punches there by Cain. You know Roy Jones Jr respects the hands of Cain.
Gunn ducks under a wild hook from Cain.
Nice defenses there by Gunn.
Cain throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Gunn sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Gunn connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Cain momentarily.
Cain jabbing away but nothing is landing.
Cain might want to mix his strikes up a bit more. He's just going for head shots at the moment and that can become a bit predictable.

Cain lands a left and a right that send Gunn crashing to the mat, dazed. Cain thinks about following him to the mat but decides to wave him back up to his feet!
Gunn moves out of range as Cain strikes.
Gunn fires out a quick counter leg kick but Cain just manages to avoid it.
Cain throws the left hand but Gunn avoids the punch easily.
Cain misses with a straight left.
Gunn is looking for a counter combo.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Gunn uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Cain.
Cain missing with a left hand there. Gunn was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
Gunn throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Cain swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Gunn went nuts there looking for a big combo counter but none of the flurry connected.
Donk. Cain catches Gunn right on the button with a cross.
Cain's corner calls for a 1, 2 combination and Cain duly obliges.
Gunn slips a jab from Cain.
Cain takes a swing at Gunn's ribcage but misses.

Gunn closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Cain did well to prevent Gunn getting side control.
Cain looks like he's trying to stand up.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Cain manages to create a bit of space in order to work his way back to his feet. Gunn keeps hold of his opponent and drives him back against the cage.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Gunn prevents Cain from breaking the clinch.
Gunn misses the knee to the body. Nice hip positioning from Cain.
A frustrated look appears on Cain's face as he tries to break the clinch.
Cain is trying to force a seperation but Gunn has the dominant position.

Gunn escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Cain missing with a left hand there. Gunn was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
Gunn feinted with a counter takedown.
Gunn throws a body kick, spinning off balance
and Cain cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Gunn ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
Gunn misses with a takedown attempt
and Cain counters with a stiff right hand.
Cain scores with a hook.
The crowd applaud the fighters' efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Cain rushes Gunn and starts throwing punches like they are going out of style! Gunn is up against the cage and has nowhere to go. Cain piles on the pressure and Gunn crumples to the floor! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:51 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Joe Cain!
