The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A head kick misses from George.
Spijkers throws a hook but George avoids it easily.

Spijkers stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Spijkers wants it to stay on the feet.

Spijkers's hands are dropping dangerously low here and George connects clean with a right hook that sends him down to one knee! Spijkers scrambles back to his feet.

Spijkers stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.
George tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Spijkers defends well and George ends up having to push Spijkers into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.

With the fighters clinched against the cage, Spijkers creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut.
George tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Spijkers smiles and moves away.

Spijkers is landing a lot of head punches in this opening round! George had better start moving his head a bit unless he wants his face to turn into pâté.

Spijkers thuds a left hand into George's body.
George misses with a takedown
and Spijkers counters with a lovely shot to the body.
Spijkers uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before George has time to react.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Spijkers closes the distance and lands a vicious right hand that drops George! Spijkers dives in looking to finish! George is still trying to defend himself but he's taking too many shots and the referee has no choice but to stop the fight!
