PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Lamar Harper (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Bakarvios Django (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Lamar Harper!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Bakarvios Django!
The judges for this bout are John Kavanagh, Steve Montenegro and Joseph Jones.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Harper tries to sprawl but Django drives through with a takedown into half guard.

Harper pushes Django off and gets back to his feet.
Harper blocks a head kick by Django.
As Django looks to move away, Harper throws a big counter combo but Django just gets out of the way.

Django closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Harper is trying to control but can't.
Django thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Harper's head.

Still in half guard, Django seems content to control.
Django thows a huge punch but Harper dodges it nicely.

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Django connects with a nice short shot to Harper's temple.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Django tries to stand and escape but Harper is controlling the position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Django seems to be working for a kimura but Harper defends the submission attempt.

Django lands with a punch from half guard.
Harper has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Django is working away from the top position though.
Django wants to take a breather but Harper is having none of it.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Django lands a nice short elbow.
Django tries to pass the half guard into mount. Harper knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.

Django is thwarting Harper's attempts to control the position.
Django tries to pass to full mount but Harper defends it.
Harper has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Django is working away from the top position though.
Harper is looking to escape.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Harper wants to control but Django is keeping him busy.

Harper with the ground and pound but Django regains half guard under the barage of strikes.

Django tries to kick Harper off but Harper keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Django working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Harper doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Harper manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

That's time! Harper's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.

Django has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Django jumps guard and drags Harper to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
Harper won't allow Django to sweep him here.

Django is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Harper wants to stand but Django has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Django is pulling down on Harper's head. It's preventing any offense from Harper, at least for the moment.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Lamar Harper. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Django gets a trip takedown into half guard.
Django working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.

Django has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Harper uses from the top position.

Harper throws a big elbow that misses.
Harper has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Harper postures up in Django's guard and throws a big left but Django blocks it.

Django isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Harper stacks Django on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Harper!
You can see the frustration on Django's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Django sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.
The step up in weight doesn't seem to be a problem for Django. He's performing admirably here against the bigger man.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Django moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Harper's corner. There ya go! There ya go!

Bakarvios Django showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!



Harper gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Django to score an easy takedown into full guard.

Harper's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

Django would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Harper throws a punch but it's blocked by Django.

It looks like Lamar Harper has been cut.
Harper is trying to pull guard but Django has him pressed against the cage.

Django is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.
Django wants to get up but he can't break Harper's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
Django seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Harper not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Django not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Harper wants to get back to his feet but Django is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Django gets to his feet - Harper follows without any prompting.
Django tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
It looked like Harper was looking amped, ready to throw a big counter but didn't commit.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

And that's the end of the fight!
Bakarvios Django comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Django has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
