PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Trent Punchy (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mathias Vini (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Mathias Vini was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, for the light heavyweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 18 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Trent Punchy!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Mathias Vini!
The judges for this bout are Yuuki Gou, Yasuomi Hirokawa and Hirohito Nitta.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Punchy steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Vini.
Punchy is looking for a counter combo.
Punchy on the receiving end of a decent leg kick there by Vini. Vini obviously looking to wear him down.
Nice defenses there by Punchy.
Punchy showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Vini.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Vini.
It looked like Punchy was trying to counter with a body shot coming off that last attack from Vini.
Punchy has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance.
Vini scores with a nice looking left hook and follows it up with an uppercut!
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Vini pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Vini jabs Punchy right on the nose. Punchy blinks but takes it well.

Punchy walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head.

and Punchy counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Mathias Vini seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

and Punchy counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.
Vini misses with a series of wild punches.
As Vini looks to move away, Punchy throws a big counter combo but Vini just gets out of the way.

Punchy swung with a counter right hand that didn't connect.
Vini ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Punchy moves away.
It looked like Punchy was looking amped, ready to throw a big counter but didn't commit.
Jab, cross, leg kick. Nice combination by Vini!

and Punchy counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work.
Punchy lunges at Vini with a hook that half lands and is half blocked by Vini's hand.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

and Punchy counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.

Vini tries to clinch there but Punchy circles away.
Vini swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Punchy is looking to counter with a shot to the body.
Vini gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Punchy counters with a lovely shot to the body.
Trent Punchy has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Mathias Vini.
Vini will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Punchy takes a push kick to the midsection and stumbles backwards.
Vini tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Vini lands with a hook. Punchy tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head.
Vini shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Punchy as he avoids it easily.

Vini misses with a low kick.
Vini moves into range and lands a nice leg kick.
Good standup being displayed there by Punchy as he connects with a hook.
Vini throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Punchy throwing a counter right hand but Vini manages to avoid it.
Vini looks to throw the jab but Punchy is out of range.
Vini misses with a series of wild punches.
Punchy appears to be looking for a big counter.
Punchy slips a jab and a cross from Vini.
It looked like Punchy wanted to counter with a hook but didn't fully commit.
A right-left combo lands from Vini.


It looks like Trent Punchy has been cut.
Vini throws a head kick but Punchy moves out of range.
Vini throws a half hearted mid kick.
Vini lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Punchy circles away quickly and effectively.

Vini lands a nice looking kick to the body. Punchy takes a step back to recover.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Vini throws a right hand that Punchy ducks under and follows up with a left that Punchy also avoids with ease.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Mathias Vini dominated that round.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Vini manages to escape and get back to his feet!

Vini throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Punchy.

and Punchy counters with a lovely straight right hand!
Vini has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Vini throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Punchy's waist but Punchy gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Vini off to one side.
Punchy throws a big counter combination but Vini scrambles out of danger and avoids any damage.

Vini drives through with a takedown into guard.

Punchy is working actively from the bottom, looking for submissions. He's escaped his hips to the side and he's going for an armbar! Vini has his hands clasped together but Punchy extends and breaks Vini's desperate grasp, forcing a tap out due to armbar! Nice BJJ displayed there by Punchy.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:59 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Trent Punchy!

During a confident post fight interview, Trent Punchy thanked all his fans. He seemed very genuine when describing how motivated his fans keep him.
