PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Cleveland Hancock (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Joe Alvey (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Cleveland Hancock!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Joe Alvey!
The judges for this bout are Russell Pearce, David Schapiro and Dean Styles.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Hancock closes the distance and clinches.
Hancock prevents the takedown attempt.
Alvey is struggling to control the position.
Hancock tries for a takedown but Alvey manages to get underhooks.

Alvey pulls guard successfully.
Hancock has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Hancock with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.
Alvey wants to sweep here but Hancock controlling him for the moment.
Hancock is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Alvey shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Alvey showed some decent athleticism there.

Hancock is defending against the submission attempts here by Alvey.
Alvey is just content to waste time from the top position. Hancock takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard.
Alvey passes Hancock's left leg - he's now in half guard.

Hancock is looking to improve his position.
Hancock really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Alvey wants to control but Hancock is keeping him busy.

Hancock defends a decent attempt at a guillotine from Alvey.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Alvey not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
Alvey wants to take a breather but Hancock is having none of it.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Alvey has his takedown stuffed
and Hancock counters with a body kick that brings a smile to the face of both fighters.
Alvey fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
As Alvey tries to get set, Hancock tries to push him back and clinch up but Alvey manages to avoid the attempt.

Hancock clinches up against the cage.

Alvey pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Joe Alvey is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Alvey throws an overhand right that lands on Hancock's shoulder, as Hancock tries to avoid the shot.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Alvey gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Alvey has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Hancock is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
Cleveland Hancock has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Joe Alvey.

Alvey is trying to slow down the pace of the fight but Hancock is keeping busy.

The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Hancock darts in and clinches Alvey up against the cage.
Hancock is working for takedown but Alvey is calmly controlling the position for now.

Alvey has clasped his hands together around Hancock's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done.
Hancock can't do much from the bottom here.
Alvey wants to control but Hancock is keeping him busy.

Alvey is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Hancock knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

Alvey stands up and beckons Hancock to his feet.

Hancock moves into the clinch successfully.
Alvey is working for takedown but Hancock is calmly controlling the position for now.

Hancock gets a nice trip takedown into half guard.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Hancock not landing any meaningful shots this time.
Hancock will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Alvey wants to control but Hancock is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Alvey holds on for dear life, maintaining half guard for now.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Cleveland Hancock will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!

Hancock has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Alvey uses from the top position.

Alvey won't allow Hancock to sweep him here.
Alvey wants to control from the top but Hancock keeps moving.
Alvey pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Hancock is keeping the position for now.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
Alvey throws an elbow that misses. Hancock uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Alvey's guard. Nice move by Hancock!

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Hancock postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.
Alvey controlling Hancock's posture.
Hancock trying to control but Alvey is working from the bottom.
Hancock wants to stand and escape but instead Alvey has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.

Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Hancock wants to hit a switch here but Alvey passes into full mount! Oh no, disaster for Hancock there!

And that's the end of the fight!
Joe Alvey comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Alvey has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
