The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Batista closes this distance looking for a takedown but Rowling circles away.
Rowling lands a beauty of a right hand that gets the crowd cheering.
The fight stays on the outside here - Rowling looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Rowling shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Rowling showed some decent athleticism there.
Batista gets back to full guard.
Rowling trying to stand up but can't free himself from Batista's guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Batista is working for submissions here. He's thrown up his legs looking for a triangle but Rowling frees his head nicely. Oh but Batista has switched to an armbar! Rowling is tapping furiously! Lovely submission there!
