Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Gaylord Suarez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kaedo Nijimuri (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Gaylord Suarez had a look across the cage there at his opponent. He definitely means business

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Gaylord Suarez!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Kaedo Nijimuri!
The judges for this bout are Robert Douchet, Dillan Fox and Ian Loll.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nijimuri throws a jab but it's blocked by Suarez.

Nijimuri fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Suarez to the ground. Nijimuri is now in Suarez's guard.
Suarez trying to keep a closed guard but Nijimuri is proving a slippery customer.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Nijimuri is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Nijimuri throws out a loose jab but Suarez uses good head movement to avoid it.

Nijimuri closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Suarez did well to prevent Nijimuri getting side control.
Nijimuri lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.

Suarez's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Nijimuri fakes low and throws an overhand right that catches Suarez on the side of the head.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Nijimuri bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut.
Suarez takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.
Nijimuri misses with a jab, cross combination.
Suarez half commits to a counter takedown before pushing away, out of range.

Suarez keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.

Nijimuri shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Suarez is trying to defend but Nijimuri finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
Nijimuri wants to take a breather but Suarez is having none of it.

Nijimuri lands with a hook. Suarez tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head.

Nijimuri shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Nijimuri showed some decent athleticism there.
Nijimuri seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Suarez does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Suarez gets caught napping as Nijimuri dives in and scores a takedown. Suarez manages to retain guard.

As Nijimuri looks to move away, Suarez throws a big counter combo but Nijimuri just gets out of the way.

Suarez isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Nijimuri stacks Suarez on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Nijimuri!
A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.
Nijimuri is looking to take a break and control but Suarez is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

and Suarez counters with a kick to the head that grazes his opponent. Nijimuri is lucky that one didn't land flush.

Suarez gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Kaedo Nijimuri showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Suarez enables Nijimuri to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Suarez manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

Nijimuri jabs Suarez right on the nose. Suarez blinks but takes it well.

Suarez has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.

Kaedo Nijimuri is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
Nijimuri has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
