PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Miro Bang (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Thor Wood (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Wood has chosen Wardruna - Blood Eagle as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 11 - 10 - 0, fighting out of London, Miro Bang!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 8 - 1, fighting out of London, Thor Wood!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Bishop, Richard Clark and Paul Tew.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Bang looks for a takedown but Wood sprawls well.
Bang has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance.
Bang tries to clinch but Wood moves out of range.
Bang misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Wood wants to counter the offense by Bang and move into the clinch position.
Oooooooooooh, not good. A low kick from Wood lands where it shouldn't have, right in the... well, you know what he did? He kicked him in the penis. He's injured, injured bad. The referee sends both fighters to their corners and Bang has 5 minutes to recover. He's OK now though... a thumbs up from Bang and we're back underway with a touch of gloves.
Bang appears to be looking for a counter takedown.
Wood connects with a good right hand that stumbles Bang. Bang circles away out of range and recomposes himself.
Wood thows a leg kick but Bang checks it

and Bang counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
Bang thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Wood's head.
The fighters are battling for position here. Wood manages to regain full guard. Nice work.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Bang drops back looking for a leg! Wood is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Wood manages to kick Bang off! Bang jumps back into Wood's guard.
Bang throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Wood works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Bang makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.

Bang distracts Wood with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
Wood tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Wood keeping full guard, as Bang tries to pass.

Wood preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
Bang tries to free his leg and advance position but Wood is retaining full guard.
Bang with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.

Bang thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Wood has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Bang can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Wood not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

Bang drops back looking for a leg! Wood is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Wood manages to kick Bang off! Bang jumps back into Wood's guard.
Bang has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Bang passes easily into side control. Nice work.

Bang is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Wood knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

Bang thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

Bang tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Bang has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Bang seems to be working for a kimura but Wood defends the submission attempt.
Bang throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Bang will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Wood throws a hook but Bang avoids it easily.
A solid leg kick lands there for Wood.
Bang moves in looking to clinch but Wood pushes him off.
Wood lands a nice leg kick that just misses Bang's sensitive parts.
Bang dives in for a single leg takedown but Wood sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.

Wood swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Wood tries to bench press Bang off him but Bang keeps the position.
Wood really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Bang. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Bang is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Wood is just riding it out for now. Bang eventually gives up the hold.

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Bang connects with a nice short shot to Wood's temple.

Bang escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Wood gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Bang is looking to cinch up a triangle. Wood throws the leg off to one side though and gets in tight to Bang's body to avoid the submission. Bang has instead reached around Wood's neck and now has a guillotine! Oh, this is biiiig trouble! Bang arches his back and squeezes and forces the tap from his hapless opponent.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:56 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Guillotine). Miro Bang!
Miro Bang very nearly forgot to thank Urban Fighter amongst all the excitement of his win but just as the interview came to a close, he screamed their name. Hopefully he'll get a few nice freebies in the mail as a thank you.
