PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jamaal Griffith (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Shaun Brockhurst (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Brockhurst has chosen Flying spaghetti monster as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Jamaal Griffith!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, Shaun Brockhurst!
The judges for this bout are Paul Tew, Donald Grub and Colin Fotheringham.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Griffith goes for a double leg but Brockhurst avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Brockhurst continues to drive forward.
Brockhurst looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight!

Brockhurst moves into the clinch.

Griffith breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Griffith fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Brockhurst sprawls well initially but Griffith persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

Brockhurst has one foot on Griffith's thigh - he pushes off and manages to get back to his feet.
Griffith closes this distance looking for a takedown but Brockhurst circles away.
Griffith looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Brockhurst is loading up here, looking for a big counter of his own.

Brockhurst instigates a clinch.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Griffith's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.

Griffith is trying to trip Brockhurst. He has hold of a leg but Brockhurst is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Griffith persists though and gets the takedown into guard.

Griffith has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Brockhurst is proving hard to escape from.

Griffith decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Brockhurst, up you get!

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Brockhurst is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.
Brockhurst trying to pass the guard. He's being very persistent here but Griffith manages to land a sweep and now he's on top!

Griffith has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Brockhurst is proving hard to escape from.
Brockhurst has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Griffith trying desperately to get back to his feet here but he's not having any joy at all. He's going to tire himself out if he's not careful.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Griffith chips away with some ground and pound.
Griffith is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.

Griffith drops back looking for a leg! Brockhurst is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Brockhurst manages to kick Griffith off! Griffith jumps back into Brockhurst's guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Brockhurst is trying to control the position but Griffith postures up.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Shaun Brockhurst will probably get the nod.

Griffith fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Brockhurst avoids it really well and circles away.
Brockhurst has been working on his striking defense in training and it's paying off as Griffith is landing a low percentage of strikes.
Griffith closes this distance looking for a takedown but Brockhurst circles away.

Brockhurst instigates a clinch.
Brockhurst is trying to push Griffith away but Griffith has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Brockhurst wants to control from the top but Griffith keeps moving.

Griffith has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Brockhurst can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Brockhurst defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Griffith.

Griffith shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Brockhurst sprawls well. Brockhurst wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Griffith gets slowly back to his feet.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Brockhurst trying to stall but Griffith improves his position.

Griffith escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Griffith has a takedown stuffed.
Brockhurst misses with a double jab.

Shaun Brockhurst showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Griffith's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!

Brockhurst wants to break free but Griffith has control.

Brockhurst slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Griffith doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

The referee asks Brockhurst politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Brockhurst prefers to stall for the moment though.

Griffith tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Brockhurst wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

Griffith is squirming around, avoiding Brockhurst's attempts to control the action.
Brockhurst has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Griffith's face.
Brockhurst content just to control the position here.
Brockhurst looking to ground and pound but Griffith is blocking nicely.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Well Brockhurst has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
