PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight kickboxing rules bout between Caleb Devries (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and John King (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that John King was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Caleb Devries!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, John King!
The judges for this bout are Frank Antenori, Timothy Bukovac and Don Winkell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
King wants to clinch up but Devries keeps it at a distance.
King uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Devries.
King tries to clinch but Devries moves out of range.
Devries swats away the attempt to clinch by King.
King tries to clinch up.
King tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
King moves in looking to clinch but Devries pushes him off.
King drops his hands momentarily and Devries takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head.
Devries takes one on the chin but seems OK.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
King moves out of range as Devries strikes.
King rushes in with a sloppy looking punch
and Devries counters with a series of strikes. King will be more careful next time no doubt.
King digs a good hook to Devries's body.
Devries waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract King.
King looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.

That's one minute gone in the round.
King scores with a leg kick.
King misses with a low kick.
Devries pushing out the jab but it's not landing.
King scores with a three punch combo!
King connects with a nice looking jab.
Devries will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
King looks like he wants to counter punch here.
King tries to clinch but Devries is having none of it.
Devries is looking for a counter combo.
Devries misses with an uppercut. King saw that one coming.
King wants to counter with a clinch but Devries pushes him away.
King rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Devries moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
King lands with a cross.
Devries looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.
Devries is really struggling to find his range with his punches. King's reach advantage is clearly causing him problems.

Devries throwing a counter right hand but King manages to avoid it.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Nice straight punches there by Devries. You know Roy Jones Jr respects the hands of Devries.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Devries closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so.
King misses with a jab, cross combination.
It looked like Devries wanted to counter with a hook but didn't fully commit.
King rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Devries moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Devries appears to be looking for a big counter.
King fails with an attempt to clinch.
King lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook.
Devries missing with a left hand there. King was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
King pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Devries swung with a counter right hand that didn't connect.
Devries throws a combination but it was largely blocked by King.
King connects with a nice looking jab.
King scores with a shot to the body.
King fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

John King dominated that round.
That's time! Back to the action!


Devries throws a combination that misses
and King counters with a one-two to the body.
King tries to clinch but Devries is having none of it.
A little feinted left hand from Devries on the counter but he doesn't commit to it.
King misses with a body kick.
John King seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
King throws a combination. Devries tries to block but a couple of punches get through.


Devries is rocked!
King weaves into range and cracks Devries right on the temple with a beautiful overhand right! Devries goes down! He's out cold! Wow, what a beautiful knockout! King is strutting round the canvas like a movie star as the camera bulbs flash frantically.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:24 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). John King!
In his post fight interview, John King started talking himself up. Luckily his charisma kept the crowd on side and gave him a good reception.
