The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Bigjohnson looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Madden!

Madden bucks up and manages to escape back to his feet!

Madden fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Bigjohnson sprawls well initially but Madden persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Madden scores with a couple of good hammerfists.
Bigjohnson regains full guard. Nicely done.
Madden with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.
Madden knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Bigjohnson on the ground.
Madden postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Madden throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Bigjohnson works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

Bigjohnson uses the cage to get back to his feet.

Madden throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Bigjohnson was covering up waiting for the punch and Madden finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Bigjohnson throws a couple of weedy looking strikes off his back.

Madden loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Madden throws a big right hand that misses.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Madden accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Bigjohnson throws some shots to the body, keeping his opponent honest.

Madden gets to his feet - Bigjohnson follows without any prompting.

Madden shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.

Bigjohnson pushes Madden off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.
