PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Carlos Joel (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Nicholas Terrance Bronie (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Bronie comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Mankind kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! I don't know about you partner, but I'm pumped for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Carlos Joel!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Nicholas Terrance Bronie!
The judges for this bout are Bart Greer, David Hoff and Sandra Marshall.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Joel shoots for a takedown but Bronie saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Bronie stuffs the takedown attempt from Joel. Joel gets slowly back to his feet.
Joel shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Bronie but Bronie pushes him off and we're back to square one.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Carlos Joel. That's going to take a lot out of him.
No joy there for Bronie, who threw a few shots but didn't land.

Bronie moves into the clinch.
Joel managing to block the knees to the body from Bronie.
Joel is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.
Bronie is trying to slow down the pace in the clinch, to catch his breath.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Joel wants to break the clinch but can't.

A frustrated look appears on Joel's face as he tries to break the clinch.
Bronie tries for a takedown. No joy.
Bronie drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Joel gets the underhooks and prevents it.
Joel blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning.
Joel prevents the takedown attempt.
Bronie has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Joel is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
Joel changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Bronie fights it off and pushes away nicely.

Joel changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Bronie looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Bronie gets back to half guard.

Joel is looking to advance position but Bronie won't allow it.

Bronie is defending against the submission attempts here by Joel.
Joel thows a huge punch but Bronie dodges it nicely.
Joel wants to free his trapped foot but Bronie is holding on for dear life with his legs.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Joel wants to take a breather but Bronie is having none of it.

Joel is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Bronie sees it coming and defends easily.
Bronie tries to kick Joel off but Joel keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Bronie looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Joel is fending him off so far but Bronie persists. Nope, Joel circles away and we're back to standing.

Joel forces Bronie back against the cage and clinches.

Joel drags the fight down to the ground.
Bronie won't allow Joel to get back to his feet.
My spies in Island Top Team inform me that Bronie has been getting involved in the gym's BJJ sparring sessions. Let's see whether that pays dividends!

Joel throws some sloppy strikes off his back.
Bronie wants to control from the top but Joel keeps moving.
Bronie content to stall in guard here.
Bronie working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Bronie keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Joel's head.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Bronie tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Joel manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Joel fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Bronie takes a swing at Joel's ribcage but misses.
Joel tries to counter by clinching up but Bronie breaks away and moves out of range.

Joel shuffles to his left behind two crisp jabs. Bronie eats them both and turns towards Joel to reposition himself and eats a stinging right hand-left hook combo.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Bronie wants to clinch.
Joel is looking to chop away at Bronie's legs.

Bronie has his takedown stuffed

and Joel counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Joel.

Joel shoots in for a takedown but Bronie shows good takedown defense.
Joel throws a head kick but Bronie moves out of range.
Bronie swings away with a counter right hand but no contact made.
Joel misses with a low kick.
Joel shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Bronie as he avoids it easily.

Bronie gets double underhooks and manages to take the fight to the ground.
Bronie wants to control from the top but Joel keeps moving.
Bronie throws a big right hand that misses.
Joel wants to control the position but Bronie says "no thanks buddy" and passes to half guard.

Bronie is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Joel defends it well.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Bronie is looking to take a break and control but Joel is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Joel swung with a counter right hand that didn't connect.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

and Bronie counters with a nice double leg into guard.

Nicholas Terrance Bronie showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Joel's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!

Joel is wriggling around but Bronie manages to pass to half guard.

Bronie is keen to just control but Joel is a slippery customer.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Joel wants to get back to his feet but he's too absorbed in his own little project and Bronie manages to pass to side control.

Bronie takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Joel pushes Bronie off looking to stand but Bronie dives back in and keeps control.

Nicholas Terrance Bronie comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Bronie has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
