PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Komatsu Akiaki (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Corey Mask (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Akiaki's entrance music is Enter the Dragon. A fine choice. The key to victory for Komatsu Akiaki has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Komatsu Akiaki!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Corey Mask!
The judges for this bout are Yukihiro Yamamoto, Tatsuya Matsuyama and Yasuomi Hirokawa.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Mask feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Akiaki has a closed guard, preventing Mask from standing up.
Mask seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Akiaki is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Akiaki avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.

Mask drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Akiaki dives on top into guard.

Mask looking to sweep here. No luck so far.

Mask looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! Akiaki has picked Mask up and slammed him! Mask can't keep hold of the triangle and Akiaki manages to pass to side control!
Akiaki tries to get to his feet but he's trapped momentarily.
Mask is not content to let Akiaki control the position.
Mask sneaks back into half guard.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Akiaki wants to control but Mask is keeping him busy.

Akiaki is figuring out what he wants to do next.
Mask is looking to control Akiaki's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Mask avoid being mounted?

Akiaki wants to lay and pray for a moment but Mask keeps working.
Mask is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Mask takes a body kick right on the floating rib. Ouchie.

Akiaki changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Mask looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Mask wants to control but Akiaki postures up.

Akiaki is trying to get an arm triangle but Mask is defending well.
Akiaki is looking to take a break and control but Mask is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Mask is trying to improve his position.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Akiaki wants to lay and pray for a moment but Mask keeps working.

Akiaki decides to stand back up. Akiaki steps back and let's Mask get back to his feet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

Mask is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Mask manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Akiaki manages to get himself to full guard.
Mask not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Akiaki bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Mask's guard.
Akiaki wants to control from the top but Mask keeps moving.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Mask wants to sweep but no luck.
Akiaki pushing down on Mask's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work.
Akiaki prevents Mask from standing back up.
Akiaki is keen to just control but Mask is a slippery customer.

Akiaki seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Mask does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

and Mask counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Akiaki!

Akiaki is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Mask looking to control but Akiaki is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
Akiaki tries to lock up and control but Mask gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Corey Mask showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round!

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
No luck for Akiaki with that takedown attempt.
Akiaki shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Mask but Mask pushes him off and we're back to square one.
The fight stays on the outside here - Mask looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Mask tries a low kick but Akiaki avoids it.
Mask is looking to take this fight into the clinch.

Mask decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Mask wants to pass to mount but Akiaki is defending the position.

Akiaki is not content to let Mask control the position.
Akiaki has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Mask is working away from the top position though.
Mask wants to get back to his feet.

Akiaki is looking to sinch up a gullotine here but Mask pulls his head out easily.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Mask is pressing down on Akiaki's thigh, looking to free his foot. Akiaki is holding on for now.
Mask not landing any meaningful shots this time.
Akiaki tries to get to full guard but Mask has control of the leg.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

Akiaki pushes Mask up against the cage in a clinch.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Akiaki is stalling here. The referee will be looking to step in if he doesn't pick up the pace.
Mask is working hard here but doesn't seem to be able to control effectively, up against the cage.

And that's the end of the fight!
I would just about give that final round to Corey Mask.
I think Mask has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
