PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Stuart Riggs (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Rick Reis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I don't know about you partner, but I'm pumped for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Stuart Riggs!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Rick Reis!
The judges for this bout are Edson Gomes, Paulo Santos and Emerson Jorge.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Riggs gets caught flat footed, as Reis shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Riggs could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Riggs lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

Riggs stops Reis from standing up.

Riggs thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Reis really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Riggs. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Riggs gets to his feet. Reis looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!

Reis feints and as Riggs raises his hands in defense, Reis changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Riggs manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Reis manages to get himself to full guard.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Reis can do anything to dispel that myth.
Reis utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

Riggs postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Riggs stopping the sweep attempt from Reis.
Riggs might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Reis pulls Riggs in close to prevent any damage.
Riggs scores with a decent looking elbow strike.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Riggs trying to stand up but can't free himself from Reis's guard.
Reis looking for a sweep. Not yet Reis, not yet.
Riggs postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

Riggs is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Riggs loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.

Riggs stands and steps away. Reis gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

Reis shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Reis was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

Riggs is breathing heavily.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Reis scores with a couple of short elbows.
Riggs takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.


Riggs is rocked!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Reis scores with a big shot from side control... and another... and another! Oh Riggs is done here - save him referee! More strikes land and eventually the ref does step in and Reis can finally stop beating on his defenseless opponent!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:30 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Rick Reis!
