PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Heriberto Mcintyre (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Moses Puppicis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Heriberto Mcintyre!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Moses Puppicis!
The judges for this bout are George Francis, Alan Glass and Gwen Towbar.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Puppicis closes the distance and clinches.
Puppicis lands a good knee to the midsection. Mcintyre won't want to take too many of those.

Puppicis turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Puppicis manages to end up in side control.

Mcintyre explodes and escapes back to his feet! Nice escape there!

Puppicis closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Mcintyre did well to prevent Puppicis getting side control.
Mcintyre could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Puppicis seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.

Puppicis is working for a submission of some sort.
Puppicis blocks the strikes from Mcintyre.

Mcintyre is controlling Puppicis's position as best he can from this difficult position.
Puppicis is controlling the pace.

Puppicis is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Mcintyre is concentrating on defense, preventing Puppicis from advancing position.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Puppicis lands with a kick to the temple. Mcintyre shrugs as if to say "is that all you've got?"
Nice sprawl there from Puppicis as Mcintyre shoots in.
Puppicis lets it all go there with a big combo counter but none of the punches connected.
Mcintyre gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Puppicis counters with a three punch combo that has Mcintyre backing up. Mcintyre nods at Puppicis to acknowledge the strikes.

Puppicis takes the fight into the clinch.

Puppicis drags the fight down to the ground.
Mcintyre stopping the sweep attempt from Puppicis.
Mcintyre is looking to work some ground and pound but Puppicis has wrist control.
Mcintyre postures up.
Mcintyre might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Mcintyre won't allow Puppicis to sweep him here.

Puppicis has his foot on Mcintyre's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Mcintyre works his way back into a safe position though.

Mcintyre thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
A slapping leg kick lands for Puppicis.

Puppicis fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Mcintyre sprawls well initially but Puppicis persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Mcintyre keeps control of the position for the meantime.
Mcintyre continues to stall.

Mcintyre is staying active underneath Puppicis, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
The fighters are battling for position here. Mcintyre manages to regain full guard. Nice work.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Puppicis forces his way into half guard.
Puppicis throws a big elbow that misses, also allowing Mcintyre to regain full guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Puppicis decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Moses Puppicis dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Mcintyre shoots in for a takedown but Puppicis shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Puppicis feints the counter takedown.
Mcintyre tries to clinch there but Puppicis circles away.
Mcintyre shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Puppicis tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away.
Mcintyre changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Puppicis tries to avoid it but Mcintyre manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Puppicis to the ground. Puppicis escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Puppicis lets it all go there with a big combo counter but none of the punches connected.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Heriberto Mcintyre. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Mcintyre avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Mcintyre looked to counter with a high kick but didn't commit.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Puppicis is taking a breather. Mcintyre says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

Puppicis throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Mcintyre preventing any damage for now, controlling his opponent's head.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
Mcintyre has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Puppicis is working away from the top position though.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Mcintyre shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Puppicis but Puppicis pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Puppicis's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

Puppicis effectively controlling the action here.
Puppicis works on Mcintyre's body with a couple of short punches.
The step up in weight doesn't seem to be a problem for Puppicis. He's performing admirably here against the bigger man.

Puppicis looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Puppicis wants to stand up but Mcintyre is controlling him.
Puppicis trying to keep a closed guard but Mcintyre is proving a slippery customer.

Mcintyre got a little sloppy there for a moment and Puppicis has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Mcintyre has managed to get both his arms back between Puppicis's legs - danger averted.

Puppicis has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Mcintyre can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

A telegraphed takedown attempt from Mcintyre is defended easily by Puppicis.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Puppicis closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Mcintyre did well to prevent Puppicis getting side control.

Puppicis decides to stand up.

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Mcintyre preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Moses Puppicis showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!


Mcintyre throws a head kick that misses.

Puppicis shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.

Puppicis stands up from guard. Let's bang!
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Puppicis has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Puppicis loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Puppicis is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

Puppicis is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Mcintyre is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Mcintyre has escaped and now he's on top!

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Mcintyre lands a couple of elbows.
Puppicis looking to hit a scissor sweep but Mcintyre is one step ahead there.
Mcintyre working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound.
Mcintyre wants to control from the top but Puppicis keeps moving.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Puppicis is on top in guard.

Puppicis is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Puppicis accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Puppicis slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Mcintyre not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Puppicis's corner is telling him to maintain position.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Puppicis scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
Puppicis takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Mcintyre tries to improve position but can't.

Puppicis goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Mcintyre rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Puppicis's guard! Nice work there by Mcintyre!
Mcintyre is looking to work some ground and pound but Puppicis has wrist control.
Mcintyre postures up.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Mcintyre lands a couple of decent looking shots.
Heriberto Mcintyre has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Moses Puppicis is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

Mcintyre is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

And that's the end of the fight!
I would just about give that final round to Moses Puppicis.
Well Puppicis has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
