Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Shannon Atkins!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Chris Carerra!
The judges for this bout are Timothy Bukovac, and Jack Bonds.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Atkins gets caught napping as Carerra dives in and scores a takedown. Atkins manages to retain guard.
Atkins looking to hit a scissor sweep but Carerra is one step ahead there.
Carerra stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Atkins swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Carerra is looking to stand up but Atkins won't let him.
Atkins wants to sweep but no luck.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Carerra is pushing down on Atkins's leg trying to pass to half guard. Atkins is fighting to maintain full guard but Carerra has managed to sneak the leg through.
Carerra seems to have lost interest with the ground game and is thinking about standing back up.
Carerra trying to control from half guard but Atkins is working away.

Carerra is pressing down on Atkins's thigh, looking to free his foot. Atkins is holding on for now.
Atkins tries to roll over but Carerra keeps him under control.
Atkins keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Atkins is trying to control but can't.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Carerra has managed to clinch.

Atkins has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Carerra uses from the top position.

Carerra is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.

Carerra slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Carerra slips nicely into half guard, despite the strikes coming from Atkins.
Carerra throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Atkins wants to get back to full guard.

Well, if Carerra is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
Atkins landing strikes from the bottom.
Atkins trying to control but Carerra postures up.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

Carerra has closed the distance and engaged Atkins in a clinch.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Carerra looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.

Atkins manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.

Carerra drops back looking for a leg! Atkins is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Atkins manages to kick Carerra off! Carerra jumps back into Atkins's guard.
Atkins keeping moving, preventing Carerra from controlling successfully.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Carerra decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Atkins, up you get!
Atkins takes a body punch but keeps moving.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.



Carerra decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Carerra is looking to advance position but Atkins won't allow it.
Atkins wants to get back to full guard.
Carerra content to control rather than advance.
Atkins trying to control from the bottom.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Carerra wants to pass to mount but Atkins is defending the position.
Carerra is still trying to improve position.

Carerra is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Atkins is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Carerra's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Carerra's back!
Carerra is really stuck here.

Atkins has his opponent's back but Carerra is looking to stand. He manages to get to his feet and shakes off Atkins.

Carerra gets a takedown into half guard.
Carerra is breathing heavily.

Atkins is looking for a sweep. Carerra is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Carerra tries to stand but his arm is trapped.
Atkins moves into full guard.
Carerra engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.
Atkins wants to sweep here but Carerra controlling him for the moment.

Atkins trying to control the position.
Carerra with a flurry of punches that miss.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

Carerra has Atkins up against the cage in a clinch.
Atkins tries to pull guard but Carerra holds him up against the cage and eventually Atkins drops back down to his feet.
Atkins fails to pull the fight into his guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Carerra has picked Atkins up - he's going for a ride! Carerra dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard.
Atkins really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Atkins wants to improve his position but Carerra is controlling well.
Carerra wants to advance to full mount but Atkins doesn't think that's going to happen and regains full guard instead.
Chris Carerra has got the better of the ground game so far.

Carerra gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.

Carerra closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Carerra lands in his opponent's guard.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Carerra slips nicely into half guard, despite the strikes coming from Atkins.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Chris Carerra showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!

Carerra wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Atkins, who protects the arm well.

Carerra fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Atkins, pushing him back against the cage.
Atkins is trying to pull guard but Carerra has him pressed against the cage.
Atkins fails to pull guard.
Carerra digs a right hand into Atkins's ribs. Those have got to be taking their toll on Atkins's gas tank.

Carerra has hold of one of Atkins's legs. Atkins is fighting the takedown attempt but Carerra gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard.

Carerra stands and steps away. Atkins gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

Atkins gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Carerra missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Atkins trying to strike from the bottom but really, it's not the best position to be doing that from!
Atkins controls Carerra momentarily but Carerra frees himself.
Carerra controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.

Carerra gets to his feet - Atkins follows without any prompting.

Carerra closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Atkins quickly recovers to half guard.
Atkins makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Atkins.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Carerra drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Atkins dives on top into guard.

Atkins is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
Carerra wants to hit a switch here but Atkins passes into full mount! Oh no, disaster for Carerra there!
Atkins avoids the attempt from Carerra to control.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Atkins controlling from the full mount.
Carerra is squirming around, avoiding Atkins's attempts to control the action.
Carerra is trying to escape the mount.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Carerra slips a leg in and gets back to half guard.

And that's the end of the fight!
Chris Carerra comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Carerra has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
