Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Donte Conley (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ernst Schmidt (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Schmidt lands three nice shots there - that looked like it hurt!

It looks like Donte Conley has been cut.

Schmidt gets in close and instigates a clinch.

Schmidt gets a nice trip takedown into half guard.
Conley tries to get to full guard but Schmidt has control of the leg.
Schmidt is figuring out what he wants to do next.
Conley is trying to get back to full guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Schmidt landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.
Schmidt working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
Conley is looking to improve his position.
Conley might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Schmidt tries to pass to full mount but Conley defends it.

Schmidt stops Conley from getting back to his feet.

Schmidt tries to pass the half guard into mount. Conley knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.

It looks like Schmidt might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Conley makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Conley.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Schmidt content to stall in guard here.
Conley really is a fat lump.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Conley shoots in but no luck this time.
Schmidt throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.

Schmidt lands a left and a right that sends Conley crashing to the canvas! Schmidt dives into mount looking to finish!

Conley is rocked!
Schmidt controlling the pace for now.
Oh Conley is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
Both fighters have adopted an aggressive gameplan on the ground!
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Schmidt is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Conley can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.
Conley is in all sorts of trouble here.
Schmidt pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.
Schmidt content just to control the position here.
Let's hope that Schmidt has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
Schmidt postures up and connects with a big shot that has rocked Conley badly. He's trying desperately to grab hold of Schmidt around the waist but Schmidt pushes him off and unloads with more strikes, forcing the referee to jump in and save him! Schmidt is the winner by TKO! Schmidt jumps onto the cage and shouts into the camera. "We did it momma!"

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:52 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Ernst Schmidt!
