Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Paul The Ribber (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Drew Monroe (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Monroe is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Onyx - Atak of da Bal-Hedz. Paul The Ribber has the edge in experience - let's see if he can make that count tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Paul The Ribber!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Drew Monroe!
The judges for this bout are Matti Vanhoillinen, Johanna Lukiainen and Roosa Järviläinen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
The Ribber checks a low kick from Monroe.
Monroe avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
The Ribber fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.

The Ribber pushes Monroe up against the cage in a clinch.
The Ribber lands a shoulder strike that jolts his opponent's head backwards.
Monroe prevents a takedown attempt there.
Monroe is trying to break the clinch but The Ribber has him pressed against the cage.
Monroe tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. The Ribber smiles and moves away.

The Ribber drives through and clinches with Monroe against the cage.
The Ribber prevents the takedown attempt.
The Ribber changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Monroe fights it off and pushes away nicely.

Monroe drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
The Ribber can't do much from the bottom here.
The Ribber is trying to work for a sweep but Monroe has mounted him!

The Ribber swinging wildly from the bottom but he's not landing.

The Ribber bucks up and throws Monroe to the side - he's got back to his feet. Great escape!

and The Ribber counters with a shoot takedown. Monroe fights it but they end up in guard.
Monroe wants to stand up but The Ribber is controlling him.

The Ribber has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

The Ribber is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

The Ribber pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Monroe is keeping the position for now.

The Ribber postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Monroe is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of The Ribber, into his guard.

Monroe is working The Ribber over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.
The Ribber wants to get back to his feet but Monroe is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
The Ribber looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.
Monroe lands a couple of decent looking shots.
The Ribber keeping moving, preventing Monroe from controlling successfully.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Drew Monroe will probably get the nod.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


The Ribber misses with a takedown attempt - Monroe sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

Monroe wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.

Monroe throws a blind hook that connects with the side of The Ribbers head.

Monroe is trying to stall.
Monroe has had enough of the clinch but The Ribber keeps him there for the moment.
Monroe wants to break free but The Ribber has control.

Monroe is trying to work for a single leg takedown but The Ribber pulls him back up using the underhooks.
The Ribber stalling here - the referee won't stand for too much of that.
The Ribber has Monroe pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Monroe manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.

Monroe closes this distance looking for a takedown but The Ribber circles away.

The Ribber with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Monroe to score with a decent uppercut.
The Ribber tries for a takedown but Monroe sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Monroe swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
The Ribber shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Monroe counters with a two punch combo.
Monroe circles away from the clinch attempt.
Monroe throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd.

The Ribber gets in close and instigates a clinch.
The Ribber wants to break the clinch but can't.
Monroe is looking to break free of the clinch but The Ribber has double underhooks.
The Ribber is trying to maintain a safe position but Monroe gets an underhook and turns The Ribber into the cage.
Monroe lands a shot to the body.
Monroe tries to land a shot to the body but it's blocked.
Monroe tries to break the clinch but The Ribber is controlling the position.
Monroe is trying to break the clinch but The Ribber has him pressed against the cage.
Monroe has had enough of the clinch but The Ribber keeps him there for the moment.

The Ribber tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Monroe just stands there and leans against the cage.
Monroe has had enough of the clinch but The Ribber keeps him there for the moment.
The Ribber's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.
The Ribber is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Monroe pulls him back up using the underhooks.
Monroe cracks The Ribber with a nice body shot.
Monroe wants to break free but The Ribber has control.
Monroe works on The Ribber's body with a couple of short punches.

The Ribber breaks the clinch.

Monroe distracts The Ribber with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.

The Ribber has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Monroe is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for The Ribber.

Monroe is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but The Ribber is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

The Ribber is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Monroe off and has taken his back!

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Monroe looks to control his opponent's hands but he's not mananging it at the moment.

Drew Monroe showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round!



The Ribber drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
The Ribber thows a big elbow that misses.

Monroe takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
The Ribber stays in close to Monroe's body and controls the position.
The Ribber stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Monroe swivels though and keeps the full guard.

The Ribber postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Monroe is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of The Ribber, into his guard.

Monroe is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! The Ribber is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! The Ribber has escaped and now he's on top!

The Ribber decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Monroe, up you get!
Drew Monroe seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Monroe swings wildly with a couple of big hooks

so The Ribber counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
The Ribber trying to control but Monroe is working from the bottom.

The Ribber drops back looking for a leg! Monroe is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Monroe manages to kick The Ribber off! The Ribber jumps back into Monroe's guard.
The Ribber is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
The Ribber tries to stand but Monroe is controlling from the bottom.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Monroe is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

The Ribber is looking to improve his position.
The Ribber is trying to control but can't.
Monroe lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.
Monroe seems to have lost interest with the ground game and is thinking about standing back up.
The Ribber moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
Paul The Ribber overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

The Ribber working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Monroe doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Monroe manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Monroe would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

The Ribber has his foot on Monroe's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Monroe works his way back into a safe position though.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Monroe escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

I think Monroe has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
