The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Marquez has taken the fight to the clinch.
Riggs is trying to break free.

Marquez manages to break the clinch.

Marquez closes the distance and pushes Riggs back into the cage.

Riggs pulls guard.
Marquez advances to half guard.
Riggs won't allow Marquez to pass to mount.
Marquez not doing much here.
Marquez wants to free his trapped foot but Riggs is holding on for dear life with his legs.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Marquez trying to control the action but Riggs is working from the bottom.

Riggs avoids any damage from the ground and pound of Marquez.
Marquez slows the pace down.
Riggs pushes Marquez away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Marquez gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.
Marquez works a knee to the body and follows up with a nice elbow to the head.
Riggs really is a fat lump.

Riggs is not content to let Marquez control the position.

Marquez decides to stand up, so the ref orders Riggs to his feet.

Marquez gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
Riggs wants a takedown but no success here.
Riggs wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.
Marquez keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Riggs's efforts to push away.
Riggs is looking to break free of the clinch but Marquez has double underhooks.

Riggs tries a body shot but Marquez blocks it.

Marquez decides to pull guard.
Marquez working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Riggs.

Marquez looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Marquez is on top in guard.


Marquez drops back, looking for a kneebar! Riggs looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Riggs looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Riggs!

Marquez struggling a bit here.
Marquez is looking to regain half guard here but Riggs keeps moving and retains side control.

Riggs swings around for an armbar but Marquez sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Riggs's guard.

Marquez trying to control but Riggs is working from the bottom.
Riggs being controlled here, momentarily.
Riggs avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.



Marquez rushes Riggs and presses him up against the cage.

Riggs pulls guard.
Marquez not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

Marquez gets to his feet. Riggs looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!

Marquez has Riggs up against the cage in a clinch.
A body shot lands from Marquez.

Marquez's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Marquez is looking to clinch.
Riggs half commits to a counter takedown before pushing away, out of range.
Juan Miguel Marquez seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Marquez gets a clinch.
Marquez has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Marquez breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Marquez darts in and clinches Riggs up against the cage.

Marquez pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Riggs gets tackled into the cage by Marquez. Marquez maintains the clinch.
Riggs wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Marquez has him pressed against the cage.

Riggs breaks the clinch.
Riggs avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Marquez tries to grapple but his opponent circles

and Riggs counters with a nice double leg into side control. Marquez won't be happy with that.
Marquez tries to buck Riggs off but Riggs is having none of it.
Marquez is trying to escape and get back to his feet.
Marquez sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.
Marquez trying to hold on to Riggs's head to control him but Riggs postures up.

Marquez is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Riggs's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Riggs's back!
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Riggs trying to get back to his feet but Marquez is in full control for now.
What can Riggs do to escape this position? He's going to have to figure it out pretty quick if he wants to stay in the fight!
Marquez landing with strikes.
Marquez is riding his opponent, not letting Riggs buck him off.
Marquez cracks Riggs with a big shot to body and one to the head - really punishing Riggs from the back mount here, looking to soften him up.

Marquez working for a RNC but it's not happening just yet.
Marquez scores with strikes from the back.

Marquez is cranking Riggs's head sideways - that looks painful. He's managed to get his other arm under the chin and this looks bad for Riggs! He's tightened the choke and Riggs is tapping out!
