PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Dorian Yates (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Tyler Thomson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 11 - 8 - 1, fighting out of London, Dorian Yates!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 13 - 1, fighting out of London, Tyler Thomson!
The judges for this bout are Colin Fotheringham, Chris Edwards and James Atkins.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nice body punch from Yates.
Tyler Thomson seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Thomson closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so.
Thomson tries for a takedown but Yates sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Yates scoring well with a low kick there.
Thomson looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Yates is fending him off so far but Thomson persists. Nope, Yates circles away and we're back to standing.
Yates drops down looking for a counter takedown but Thomson sprawls and moves away.
Thomson blocks a head kick by Yates.
Yates has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance.
Yates cracks Thomson with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business.
Yates slips in close and lands a nice hook before moving back out of range.
Thomson throws a lazy head kick
and Yates counters with a body kick.
Thomson has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Yates finds it's way round the side to connect with Thomson's head.
Thomson has his front leg slapped to the side - a nice low kick landing there from Yates.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Yates moves into range and lands a nice body kick.
Thomson shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Yates as he avoids it easily.
Dorian Yates has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Tyler Thomson.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Yates keeps his opponent at a distance with a nice jab.
Thomson walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head.
Yates throws a nice inside leg kick.
A good leg kick by Yates.
Yates scores with a jab. Thomson acknowledges it with a nod of the head.
Thomson's hands are dropping dangerously low here and Yates connects clean with a right hook that sends him down to one knee! Thomson scrambles back to his feet.
Yates feints and then cracks Thomson's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Thomson down.
Yates lands a nice leg kick that just misses Thomson's sensitive parts.
Thomson tries to score a power double leg takedown but Yates sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Thomson somewhat.
That kick from Yates tenderised Thomson's leg. Thomson is trying to keep his angry face on.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Thomson doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Yates counters with a lovely shot to the body.
Thomson is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Yates dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Yates chopping away at his opponent's legs.
Thomson on the wrong end of a nice hook.
Thomson misses with a series of wild punches.
Yates lands a nice looking body kick.
Yates avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Yates drops down looking for a counter takedown but Thomson sprawls and moves away.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Yates shoots in and bounces Thomson off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Thomson is wriggling around but Yates manages to pass to half guard.


Yates is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Thomson is just riding it out for now. Yates eventually gives up the hold.
Thomson has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Yates is working away from the top position though.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Yates is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount!

Yates with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Yates is working for a guillotine from mount but Thomson frees his head quite easily.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Dorian Yates dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Thomson shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Yates defends it nicely.
Tyler Thomson is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Thomson wants to clinch but Yates slips to the side
and Yates counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Thomson thinking.
Yates fakes the leg kick and cracks Thomson in the body.

Yates shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Thomson's guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Yates not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Yates forces his way into half guard.

Yates looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Yates wants to free his trapped foot but Thomson is holding on for dear life with his legs.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

Yates is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Yates works his way into side control.

Yates tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.

Yates has worked his way into a potential kimura here. Thomson is trying to get out of the position but his squirming has just got him deeper into trouble. Yates yanks on the arm and Thomson is forced to tap due to a very painful looking submission! Nice work by Yates.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:57 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Dorian Yates!
After winning the bout, Dorian Yates thanked all his fans and promised he'd do even better in his next fight. The crowd seemed to love his humility.
