Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between John Flop (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and James Sommervile (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). James Sommervile is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, John Flop!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, James Sommervile!
The judges for this bout are Kenichi Hosakawa, Shigeki Sano and Taro Takaoka.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Flop shuffles to his left behind two crisp jabs. Sommervile eats them both and turns towards Flop to reposition himself and eats a stinging right hand-left hook combo.
Flop is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Flop lands a really nice looking cross but Sommervile seems unphased.
Flop goes for a high kick. It partially lands.
Sommervile throws a head kick that misses.

Sommervile closes the distance and pushes Flop back into the cage.
Sommervile effectively controlling the action here.
A head punch blocked on the inside by Sommervile.
Flop is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Sommervile to keep the fight standing.

Sommervile breaks from the clinch.

Sommervile closes the distance and clinches.
Flop misses with a knee strike.
Flop wants a takedown.

Flop lands with a left to the head.

Flop pulls guard successfully.
Flop could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

Flop working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Sommervile doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Sommervile manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Sommervile is stalling in the full guard.
It looks like Sommervile might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.
Flop looking for a sweep. Not yet Flop, not yet.
Sommervile is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
Sommervile trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.

Sommervile stays in close to Flop's body and controls the position.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Flop looking to hit a scissor sweep but Sommervile is one step ahead there.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

Sommervile drops Flop with a beautiful combination! Flop stares up at his opponent, who ushers him back to his feet - Sommervile is looking for the KO!


It looks like John Flop has been cut.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Sommervile gets in close and instigates a clinch.
The pace really dropping off here, momentarily.
Sommervile content to slow the pace in the clinch.

Sommervile's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

Sommervile gets the body lock takedown. After a quick scramble, Flop regains guard.
Sommervile controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.

Sommervile is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

Flop escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Sommervile gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Sommervile must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Sommervile stands and steps away. Flop gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

Sommervile lands a left and a right that send Flop crashing to the mat, dazed. Sommervile thinks about following him to the mat but decides to wave him back up to his feet!
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Flop throws a nice head kick!

Sommervile shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Sommervile was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Sommervile is staying tight to Flop's torso, preventing him from escaping.
Flop wants to control but Sommervile postures up.
Flop is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Sommervile is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's time! Flop's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.



Sommervile scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.

Flop kicks Sommervile off and gets back to his feet.
John Flop is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Sommervile shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Flop pinned against the cage. Flop gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Flop slips a jab and a cross from Sommervile.

Sommervile moves into the clinch successfully.

Sommervile breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Sommervile shoots in but Flop avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Flop throws a quick counter head kick but Sommervile was just out of range.

Sommervile stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Sommervile wants it to stay on the feet.
Sommervile raises up his leg as if looking to counter with a high kick.
Flop is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Flop closes the distance and clinches up with Sommervile, looking for a takedown. Flop pushes Sommervile against the cage but Sommervile circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Flop sets himself, and Sommervile steps forward looking for the clinch! Flop avoids it this time.

The fight moves into the clinch position.

Flop pulls guard effortlessly.
Sommervile engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.
Sommervile is looking to work some ground and pound but Flop has wrist control.

Sommervile stands and steps away. Flop gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Flop slips a jab and a cross from Sommervile.
Flop takes a head kick and keeps coming.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Flop enables Sommervile to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Flop manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Flop is trying to control the position from the bottom.

Sommervile passes easily into side control. Nice work.
Sommervile controls the position.
Sommervile tries to land with some ground and pound but misses.
Flop takes a nasty elbow to the side of the head.

Sommervile stands up and we're back to a striking position.

Flop misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Ouch! a nice leg kick from Sommervile, right into the meat.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Sommervile thows a huge punch but Flop dodges it nicely.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Flop is trying to get back to full guard.
Sommervile not doing much here.
Sommervile really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Flop. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Flop won't allow Sommervile to pass to mount.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

James Sommervile showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Flop gets caught flat footed, as Sommervile shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Sommervile prevents Flop from getting back to his feet.

Sommervile has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Flop pulls Sommervile in close to his closed guard and prevents Sommervile from doing any damage or advancing position.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Flop stuffs the takedown.
Sommervile throws a quick head kick that skims the top of Flop's head.
Flop shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Sommervile but Sommervile pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Flop thuds a left hand into Sommervile's body.
Sommervile throws a body shot but no joy.

Sommervile shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Flop swung with a counter right hand that didn't connect.
Sommervile shoots for a double leg takedown but Flop sprawls well. He's pushed Sommervile's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
It looked like Flop wanted to counter with a hook but didn't fully commit.
John Flop has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of James Sommervile.

Sommervile darts in and clinches Flop up against the cage.
Sommervile gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Flop.
Sommervile is stalling here. The referee will be looking to step in if he doesn't pick up the pace.
Flop tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.

Sommervile escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Flop is positioning himself to get back to half guard.

Sommervile throwing strikes but missing, from side control.
Flop on the wrong end of some ground and pound.
Sommervile controlling the position.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Flop defending against the ground and pound.
Flop tries to bench press Sommervile off him but Sommervile keeps the position.
James Sommervile has got the better of the ground game so far.

Sommervile thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Flop manages to get back to half guard.

And that's the end of the fight!
James Sommervile comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Sommervile has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
