PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jackie Chan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Adelbert Gainsborough (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Gainsborough is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Whole Lotta Love. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

The judges for this bout are Cecil Peabody, Wesley Smith and Gwen Towbar.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A decent looking cross lands there for Chan.
Chan bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Gainsborough's head backwards.
Gainsborough swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Chan tries to counter by clinching up but Gainsborough breaks away and moves out of range.

Chan gets caught napping as Gainsborough dives in and scores a takedown. Chan manages to retain guard.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Gainsborough throwing strikes from guard but Chan blocks nicely.

Chan kicks Gainsborough off and gets to his feet.
Chan misses with a looping left.
Chan missing with a left hand there. Gainsborough was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.

and Chan holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
Gainsborough blocks a punch to the side of the head.
Chan is trying to break the clinch but Gainsborough is controlling him.
I was talking to Chan's coach per-fight and he was telling me that they'd been working on the clinch in the runup to this fight.
Chan tries for a takedown but Gainsborough manages to get underhooks.

Gainsborough misses with a hook from the clinch.
Chan goes for a body shot but it's blocked.

Gainsborough using the Thai plumb to throw knees but Chan has his back arched nicely, preventing the strike.

Gainsborough has been taking part in the yoga sessions down at SiTech MMA Academy ($50/week). Presumably he's going to look for a slick submission... Or maybe he's looking to avoid one.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Chan lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.

Gainsborough is looking to escape.
Gainsborough regains full guard, whilst avoiding punches from Chan.

Chan tries to free his leg and advance position but Gainsborough is retaining full guard.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Gainsborough fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Chan, pushing him back against the cage.
Chan lands with a good tight uppercut to the head.

Chan escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Chan loads up on a big right hand but Gainsborough slips the punch.
Gainsborough fails with the takedown.

Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Chan.
Chan connects with a single shot there.
Chan tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Gainsborough was well out of range. Poor timing from Chan.
Chan throws a leg kick but Gainsborough sees it coming and checks it nicely.
Gainsborough tries to counter by closing the distance.
Gainsborough fails to land with a series of punches.
Gainsborough jabbing away but nothing is landing.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Gainsborough throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Gainsborough fails with an attempt to clinch.
Gainsborough's corner calls for a 1, 2 combination and Gainsborough duly obliges.
Chan jabs Gainsborough right on the nose. Gainsborough blinks but takes it well.
Chan scores with a decent looking hook.
Gainsborough moves out of range of the strikes.
Gainsborough checks a low kick. Bone on bone - not my idea of a good time.
Chan cracks Gainsborough with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business.
Chan changes levels and scores with a jab to the body.
Gainsborough looks winded!
Chan lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.

Gainsborough is rocked!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's time! Chan's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.

Chan thuds a left hand into Gainsborough's body.
Gainsborough throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Chan was looking to counter that move with a punch but didn't quite pull the trigger.

Chan is looking for a takedown. Wow, that's a brutal slam - Gainsborough is in big trouble! Chan is landing strikes from the mount and this one is all over! The ref jumps in to save a confused looking Gainsborough. Poor guy.
