PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Enrique Reilly (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Yuri Boyka (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Boyka has a niggling injury. He would have liked to come in 100% fit but that's not always possible. Yuri Boyka has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Enrique Reilly!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Yuri Boyka!
The judges for this bout are Konstantin Menshow, Sergei Dronov and Fedor Mirinova.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Boyka with a poor takedown
and Reilly counters with a leg kick.

Boyka fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Reilly, pushing him back against the cage.

Reilly gets double underhooks and manages to take the fight to the ground.
Reilly with a flurry of punches that miss.
Reilly has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Reilly lands a couple of decent looking shots.
Reilly connects with a couple of short punches.
Reilly postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Reilly throwing strikes but missing.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Boyka is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Reilly is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.

Reilly got a little sloppy there for a moment and Boyka has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Reilly has managed to get both his arms back between Boyka's legs - danger averted.

Reilly is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.

Boyka utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Reilly throws a strike but Boyka rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Reilly is trying to keep Boyka in close.
Reilly wants to control but Boyka passes easily into half guard.
Reilly trying to control but Boyka postures up.
Reilly is looking to improve his position.
Reilly is trying to maintain the position but Boyka is very close to passing his half guard.
Boyka tries to pass the half guard into mount. Reilly knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.

Reilly wants to control but Boyka is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Reilly trying to get back to full guard but Boyka takes advantage of the position and moves to full mount!
Reilly tries to lock up and control but Boyka gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Reilly knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Boyka on the ground.
Reilly is in a bad position, trying to hold on for dear life but he is really struggling to maintain any sort of control.
Reilly reaches up to try and control the position but Boyka seems to have an arm triangle now! Uh oh! Reilly rolls and tries to escape and now Boyka has his back!

Boyka patiently working for the choke. Which fighter will keep their nerve here?

Boyka trying to secure his dominant position for a moment - making sure Reilly doesn't escape.

A lull in the action here.
Reilly manages to reverse the position and now he's in Boyka's guard. Nice work there by Reilly.
Reilly with a flurry of punches that miss.
Boyka looking to hit a scissor sweep but Reilly is one step ahead there.
Boyka pulls Reilly in to control the position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Yuri Boyka will probably get the nod.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Boyka misses with a takedown attempt
and Reilly counters with a lovely straight right hand!
Boyka has his takedown stuffed
and Reilly counters with a big head kick but Boyka shrugs it off.

Boyka forces Reilly back against the cage and clinches.
Boyka tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Reilly smiles and moves away.
Enrique Reilly has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Yuri Boyka.

Boyka clinches with his opponent.
Boyka is breathing heavily.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Reilly successfully pulls guard.

Reilly looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.
Yuri Boyka has got the better of the ground game so far.
Reilly is trying to control the position but Boyka postures up.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Boyka wants to control from the top but Reilly keeps moving.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Boyka shoots and misses
and Reilly counters with a three punch combo that has Boyka backing up. Boyka nods at Reilly to acknowledge the strikes.
No luck for Boyka with that takedown attempt.

The fight moves into the clinch position.

Reilly decides to pull guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Boyka loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Reilly trying to keep a closed guard but Boyka is proving a slippery customer.
Boyka wants to stand but Reilly has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
Boyka missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Reilly pulls Boyka in close to his closed guard and prevents Boyka from doing any damage or advancing position.
Reilly keeping moving, preventing Boyka from controlling successfully.
Boyka passes Reilly's left leg - he's now in half guard.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Reilly has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Boyka is working away from the top position though.

Reilly is looking to get back to full guard here but Boyka has managed to pass to side control instead.
Reilly wants to control but Boyka postures up.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Boyka wants to control but Reilly is keeping him busy.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Boyka is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Reilly will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already.

Boyka decides to stand up, so the ref orders Reilly to his feet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Enrique Reilly will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!


Boyka doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Reilly counters with a straight right hand.

Boyka has managed to clinch.

Reilly gets a trip takedown into half guard.

Boyka pushes Reilly off and gets back to his feet.
Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Boyka.
Boyka throws a left and a right that both miss
and Boyka takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Boyka misses with a takedown
and he gets countered with a snapping leg kick.
Boyka takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Boyka gets tackled into the cage by Reilly. Reilly maintains the clinch.

Reilly manages to pull guard.
Reilly tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Reilly controlling the position.
Reilly working a defensive guard here.
Boyka trying to control but Reilly is working from the bottom.
Boyka content to stall in guard here.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Reilly is trying to control the position but Boyka postures up.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Boyka gets a clinch.
Boyka tries to land a knee to the body but he is off balance and Reilly avoids it.

Reilly gets double underhooks and manages to take the fight to the ground.
Boyka wants to sweep here but Reilly controlling him for the moment.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Reilly postures up.
Boyka working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Reilly.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Reilly throwing strikes but missing.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Boyka is controlling Reilly's posture.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

Boyka moves into range and clinches up with Reilly.

Reilly is trying to trip Boyka. He has hold of a leg but Boyka is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Reilly persists though and gets the takedown into guard.

Boyka pushes Reilly off and scrambles back to his feet.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Reilly closes the distance and clinches.

And that's the end of the fight!
I would just about give that final round to Yuri Boyka.
I think Boyka has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
